HPS used to try to promote their products on this board. They handled themselves like amateurs and eventually left the board. As for their product... it produces substantially lower hp and torque than the Kleemann system and is based on older, less sophisticated technology. I have talked to one HPS customer who was happy with the product, but he also had nothing to compare it to. With Kleemann, you are buying a proven product that produces enormous gains and is backed by a company that is run by consummate professionals. There is significant R&D in the Kleemann product and many happy customers (including me). Granted, you pay more for their system, however, in this case, you do get what you pay for.

I admire your patience, but remembe you mentioned you have a small child and house renovation going, that could help keep you busy and not put all your head into this long project. Good luck and post some pictures of the engine when done.

...........one year ago, the obvious answer would have been Kleeman and probably still is. Kleeman offers you an intercooler, HPS does not. Kleeman has much more HP than HPS. But Kleeman is $20K installed and HPs is about $10K installed. The problem is tht W211E55 has changed everything. I have a pretty good relationship with some folks that install Kleeman. Ever since the W211 E55, the market for the V8 Kleeman s/c has gone down condiderably. At only $75K, it ends up being cheaper to buy a new e55 than to take your V8 mercedes and add a Kleeman s/c at $20K and suspension at $3K and brakes at $4K. Besides regardless of what one does to their car, it will not outperform W211 E55. It appears that the pricing of the W211 E55 was delibrate. in summary, if you need more HP, then HPs at $10K makes sense now, but if you need extreme power you can spend a lot of money or you can get an E55.

Sorry can you explain this a little bit more. So are you saying for example a NA 55 AMG engine w/ a kleemann G4 kit (550hp) will not out perform the newer W211 E55(469hp) in terms of power or handling or both? Sorry confused.

...........actually, the post was about a clk 430 with a kleemann. but yes, the w21 e55 outperforms the the na amg55 with a kleemann s/c. the problem with the later is very little traction when you mash on the pedal. below are the figures: Rhis is taken from Benzo magazine in the fall of 2002.
Now, 4.9 seconds makes the Kleemann-blown
CLK43K Mercedes the ankle-holstered belly gun of
the auto world. Seemingly an innocent, high zoot
luxury transport, when the driver is taunted or
even just self-tempted, it’s hair-trigger performance
can shoot down such big guns as the highly-touted,
supercharged, much more costly Jaguar XKR. In
fact, in a showdown, its 4.9 0-60 whoosh actually
beat (but not by much) Mercedes’ biggest artillery
CLK coupe, the factory unblown but AMG-hot-rodded
55 AMG.
In addition to being faster than the stock CLK55
AMG, the Kleemann Kompressor CLK43K is also
less expensive. Remember, the sticker shock for the
stock factory CLK55AMG is $69,115, while the
MSRP of the stock CLK430 is $50,915. Add in the
Kleemann Kompressor kit, which runs about
$16,000 for the 430 coupe setup installed and ready
to,er, go, and there is not only a savings of three
grand, but the blown 430 is a tic or two faster to 60
mph than the unblown AMG-tuned CLK55.
Based on that performance, someone at
Kleemann wondered what would happen if that
top-of-the-line CLK55 AMG was also
Kleemannized. The answer to that question is the
just-announced CLK55K. Newsflash: this steroided
road rowdy develops 560 hp which can catapult it
from 0 to 62 mph per hour in 4.6 seconds or the
length of time it takes to say, “want to go for pinks”
and turn those ill-mannered, hooting punks in
their muscle cars or rice rockets into instant pedes-trians.
That acceleration time is equal to or faster
than most of those stratospherically-priced, thinly
disguised race cars sold in this country as street-legal
by Porsche and Ferrari.
..........Now remember that the w21 E55 does zero to 60 in 4.2 secs and the quatermile in 12.4 secs @116mph.

............You can see that a Kleemann CLK55K will cost youclose to $90K, well over the price of the better performing W211 E55.

remember that these prices are for the s/c. By the time you add the suspension and upgrade the brakes, the cost will be even higher. If you take the CLK43K at $67K, by the time you add the $2.5K for the suspension and the $3K for the brakes, you are into the $70K range of a brand new E55.
..............In summary, I like Kleemann and I own a Kleemann car. However, I think Mercedes may have caused them a big problem by pricing the W211E55 the way it did.

Sorry even though i find this hard to believe guess it just depends on the driver of each car.
.........I understand your bewilderment. The issue is not that the CLk55K is not fast, the issue is that the W211 E55 is plain incredible. Words cannot explain this car. Regardless of price, it is probably the fastest production car on the road right now short of an Enzo. At only $76K, there is no competion. At least until BMW reales the new M5 with rumoured 0-60 of 3.9 secs. As you proably know, HP alone is not the whole story. The ability to get the HP on to the pavement is the major problem. I have driven a CLk55K. It has incredible HP but it is like a wild beast that is hard to control. The tires just spin and smoke. I am sure that a better driver can do a better job, but not enought to overcome the 0.4sec 0-60 advantage of the W211E55.

I've myself have driven both a CLK55k and a W211 E55 and the 55k imo has more kick to it. But like what i said i guess this would depend on how you work the gas pedal. I've punched both 55k hard as well as the W211 E55 and again maybe it's just me but the 55k defenitely hauls more juice over the W211 55. Just my 0.02 cents

This is Benzmac's timeslip for the Kleemann SCed W208 CLK55 his shop worked on. The car ran this time on stock tire/wheel setup, with much room for improvement.

As you can see from Sleestacks posts a clk55k does 12.415 in 1/4 time and you're saying that a W211 55 will outperform a na 55 engine?

Im not talking about clk55 with a kleeman. Im talkin c43-clk43 with HPS or Kleeman. Kleeman does put abot 30-40 more hp and torque but at what price of almost 350.00 per hp that is alot.-MOE
