We have been told by reliable sources that Schrick makes the same cams for all Mercedes tuners as those they sell publically.
Have we verified this? No.
What I can tell you is that Schrick is the #1 cam builder for the euro aftermarket industry, and that they are the cam builder of choice for many euro tuners. Further, have seen the same gains from Schrick cams that other Mercedes tuners advertise, which supports what our sources have told us.
If you'd like to discuss this further, feel free to call me.

Ben

Just curious, since the Merc engines do not have variable cam timing, to get an increase in peak power will this not lose the bottom end power and hence the flexibility of the engine. I think that unless you seriously want a power increase and are always driving your car hard, those cams would be a compromise. Any opinions on this?

Twin Turbo,
The cams have the potential to increase power everywhere as the stock cams have to be made to accomidate smog reg's of not only a new car but one with 80,000 miles and such. So cam lift and duration can have a large effect on smog emmissions.
By focusing on performance and letting smog concerns remain, but not as a strong focus, it's possible to build a cam with more lift and slightly more duration and with faster ramp opening speeds to create more Hp.

Who can I talk to about a powerchip for my 430? And are there any good shops in NJ/NYC that really know MB Performance?
Thanks in advance
I figure:
Powerchip
CLK55 Airbox
Free flow Exhaust
I will be good to go with the best of them!

Speaking of MKB, does anyone have any idea how much their full NA set-up (cams, headrs, exhaust ecu) costs? I imagine that for the money, it might make more sense to go with a Kleeman supercharger, but I like the idea of a wicked na motor. Has anyone heard of anyone using a Kleeman compressor with MKB cams, headers, and exhaust? I imagine that would be awesome , but I have to think that neither ecu would work well with that combination...
Best regards,
Matt

'81 380SL/dual cam chain-LT4 vette-Z06 ('03) vette-I need a bigger garage....
After the initial outlay of $2500 for the pieces, the labor of installation....$2000?, $1000 for dyno tuning and then more money for the few extras that 'might as well replace while in here'.........
Even at an honest 20HP at the rear wheels it is just a little steep don't 'cha think?

I installed the GM HOT camshaft in my vette a couple of years ago. The cam was only a couple of hundred but in order to make everything work together, one needs to open up the air intake, possibly go to bigger throttle body, a good set of headers always helps and then look at high flow catalytic converters/ exhaust system. The total bill for the above items, with no labor costs since I did the work myself, came to over $4000. I picked up 50HP and 40 torque at the rear so I am happy. If I had just done the cam, personally, I would not consider 20HP worth it. Of course, if one does just the cam only, I am very suspect of 20HP to the rear.
