Are there any vendors besides Kleemann, MKB and Renntech that make or sell a limited slip for mercedes?? (Mainly a w210 E55) This open rear is starting to irritate me, but not $5k worth (MKB)

My brother had no problem finding an aftermarket piece for his Audi, but I'm told those are just reworked Porsche units. Anything similar or interchangable with the mercedes diffs??

For JUST the LSD, that's it . . . . That's f-ing rediculous. $5k is what MKB wants for a complete gearset/LSD in an exchangable housing.

I traded e-mails with the Aftermarket Manager at Quaife, but he told me that they don't have a unit for our application and they'd need a production run of at least 30 units to make a custom part.

 

Ok, so what is the cost of the Quaife per part if you have a 30 part run? I know the Kleemann requires machining your own parts to make it work, but it’s less that 5k. With labor say 3500. What other options are cheaper? I’m interested.

 

I didn't even inquire about the cost of a 30 unit run from Quaife. I figured it'd be more realistic to try to herd cats than to get 30 people to commit to a group-buy.

I would genuinely like to find an option to the overpriced stuff that's out there and have found in the past that the racing industry is often the best suited to provide such an option. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who has ever looked into this and that maybe there was already a solution to, what seems to me, like a very common problem.

 

Well, all I know is it’s seems Kleemann is the lowest cost I have found. May not be the easiest to do. Also they said next year when MB sells the pinion gear etc, then will make it available in the kit, but didn't say if they were to charge more.

 

Interesting. So do they require you to ship them your 3rd member, they modify it then return the whole unit??

 

the kleemann LSD is $2300. Only late cars (5/03+ AMG cars) need machining. The W210 kit includes all necessary parts and no machining is needed. The Diff on a W210 comes out in 45 minutes and it takes about an hour to install the kleemann parts- call it 3-4 hours labor maximum for the W210. Any kleemann dealer can complete the install.
