C200 Kompressor Sports Coupe - engine failure

2003 model with 45,000 on clock: serviced at correct milages:

The car died last week and was towed to a Mercedes Main dealer:

After a £80 diagnostic check and compression test:

A £1850 provisional estimate given for renewed inlet valves; timing chain and tensioner: With a option to inspect damage when dismantled: and old parts to be kept.

There was a U turn on the inspection with some rather lame excuses:

I found this rather suspicious:

Car sorted and now going: Work necessary as anticipated:

I don’t seem to be getting a clear explanation of the cause of the mishap, other than a tensioner failure: The timing chain was intact, but had jumped a few teeth [There were no unusal rattles/noises from the engine prior to the failure: was travelling along a quiet road at 25mph ish]

The tensioner does not appear to be seized and the oil holes appear clear:

Has any one any thought on this matter ?
