2006 R500...Good deal or GREAT DEAL?

Looking at a 2006 R500 with 4000 miles. Car appears to be an early factory demo with an in service date of 8/2005.

Here's the rundown.

723 - Pewter
901 - Black Alcantara seats
R39 - 255/19" Sport wheels
143 - Sport Package
220 - Parktronic
244 - Sport front seats
317 - Comfort Package
320 - Entertainment Package: Harmon Kardon LOG
323 - Heating Package: Heated rear seats
353 - Airmatic
424 - Panorama roof
530 - DVD COMAND Navigation
536 - SIRIUS Sat
581 - 3-Zone Climate
739 - Aluminum trim
876 - Ambient light package
952 - Sportline

Total MSRP of 66,450

Worked a deal down to 43,000.00

So basically, this thing looks, smells, acts, and tastes like a Saks 5th Ave edition R500. This was an early production vehicle and I'm guessing this was before they offered the Saks jobbie but this option list has morphed into the Saks model. I think some of the option packages and names changed during the year but not exactly sure.

Looks identical to this one:

Anyway,

What do you guys think? Good deal? Great deal? Just an OK deal?

Hello. To me, it seems like a good deal. Good options, and good miles. In my opinion, I say go for it, Make sure you show pictures if you buy it!

Actually, it's an aviator, but yeah it would replace that. I'm just a bit chicken though about pulling the trigger. My Aviator has only seen the dealer for scheduled maintenance, that it. The thing is bullet proof. It has 49K miles and the warranty is about to expire. My wife loves my car and she deserves something fancier for putting up with me. Anyway, my E500 has been less than perfect but has only had annoying little niggles, nothing major. My wife HATES mini vans and I don't have the heart to tell her that's exactly what the R is but she really likes it. And I secretly like it and I'm sure I'm gonna get pummeled in the W211 forum for saying that.

The other thing that scares me is the resale value. I mean, I'm getting 23K off on a car that's 4K miles old. That's just insane. My Aviator is paid off and I've already absorbed the brunt of the depreciation on it.

Ya know, it sounds like I'm talking myself out of it as I type this....I better stop.

Any "gotchas" to look out for on the R?

Thanks

Not a bad deal at all. If it had the entertainment package in it I would definitely call it a "Great Deal" but as is it is a "really good deal"...lol.

Actually,

It has the entertainment package. The only thing it's missing is the rear seat dvd system. Maybe that's what you meant. I really need that too, maybe aftermarket....I don't know

With entertainment systems, you can get better stuff for less money aftermarket. So I wouldn't worry about that.

It can be hard to turn down a car marked down so far from list. They have cut prices (and content) for 2007, but not this much. Just entered the data into my database last night. The sport seats and the multicontour seats appear to be gone, except on the R63 where sport buckets are standard.

I'm trying to figure out if the seats in loaded R's are 8-way or 10-way -- i.e. do they have power headrests?

Best deal I've seen. Got mine (wife's) about 16k under 2 mos ago. I was really shooting for the monthly lease price. Got $599 tax in which was cheaper than an XC90, RX350 or new MDX. Had same issues as you: alot of bugs in my E500. I had lost love for MB. We do love the R500 ( my wife has not realized it's a mini van thank God) but we already had a bad transmission problem. I guess my prob would be outright purchase. You know it's gonna' tank. I got killed on my E500. Nothing retains value anymore. Would you consider a lease?

She's on her way! The transport company is picking it up this afternoon. My wife should be able stomp some poor schmo in a Tahoe in about 10 days.

Oops, Aviator, not Navigator. That is one sweet looking R. Having been raised in a Plymouth Grand Voyager LE, I have fond memories of road trips and that van, but I will never own a mini-van, the R is a great compromise. You can lower that beauty with the airmatic right? I'd get rid of those amber corner lights. Looks like a good new nookie mobile

it would have been a great deal if i haven't seem one with more options about 3 weeks ago at select auto imports (alexandria va) just off 495/95 on van dorn street. they have one in light green with all your options plus HIDs, and entertainment package. it has a little more miles (8k miles) for around 44k.

i am sure you can get it down to 43k or even less.

note: this used car dealer seems to get lots of new mercedes (lots of '06 and even '07 for almost no mile at all). check it out if you're in the area. i am not affiliated with them.

I looked there, actually. I'm from the area too. The car you're thinking of was an R350, If I'm not mistaken. Mine is a 500. I've still been checking prices even after I bought it, I have no idea why. I'm convinced that I got a great deal. Oh, and mine does have the entertainment package as well as HID's. Check my package list on my first post.

Here is one they're selling right now. It's IDENTICAL to my car accept it's a 350. They have two 500's right now for close to 50K

Unless they are aftermarket, I am sorry to inform you it does not. I see no 615 or 319 code on your list... those are the only two for bi-xenon lights. Also no saks edition cars had xenons, all R's with xenons have fog lights in the bumpers.

Hmmmmm.....

Well, the car arrives tomorrow so I'll know for sure. I was told by the dealer that they had them. Maybe they were added....interesting.

I think you got a really good deal, would have been great if you got a really good lease rate. Has the clock started ticking on your warranty yet? I'm thinking so, but if not you did much better than buying used, you should also have had better financing options buying this 'new' from Mercedes.

I'm searching for a great lease deal on a 500 so if you find any other amazing deals please send them my way. I think I might have missed the wagon as the residuals seem to have gone down and the buy rate up since the great deals of the late fall.

I'm wondering if there was some Xenon confusion relating to the ambient light package, every time I hear lighting package I expect x's. Either way, enjoy your new ride.

did you ask if it had "xenons" or did you ask if it had the "lighting package". It has the interior ambient lighting package (illuminated cupholders and door handles) but no xenon unless aftermarket. I hope since u said this isnt an official saks car that it does have xenons but I am pretty sure it doesn't

Well, she's here:

Kar don, you were right...no Xenon's. SON OF A!!!

I looked at so many of these and was emailed so many option lists for different cars, maybe I got confused. No worries though, the deal was good enough that even if I add aftermarket, I still did pretty good on it.

congrats, it looks great

I can't decide if I am more envious of the ride or the blue sky and lack of snow on the grass...
