No new CDIs in PA after 2007??

My wife and I were about to order a 2008 R320 CDI but I was informed by a dealer in NJ that in Pennsylvania will come under the California regulations as of the 2008 model year. This means a 2008 R320 cannot be registered in PA. Would have been nice for the salesman to mention this earlier, since almost all of the 2007 R320 stock in the region are gone. Frustrating.

Does anyone else know about this?? Is this accurate?

That is correct. I was at the Mercedes Benz Club of America StarTech in Virginia in May. Mercedes Benz sent some staff down and conducted a session on the new diesel models. Since I have a R320 CDI on order, I was interested. In that session they mentioned that a couple more states were going to implement the "California" standards and they would not be able to offer diesels in those states. Unfortunately, your state is one of them. They will be bringing out the full "Bluetech" model in the 2009 model year, and it will meet all 50 state requirements.

2007 R320
That's really messed up! Especially when the PA MB dealers dont even seem to know. How can PA allow CDI in '07 and turn around not allow in '08

No wonder, when I recently check MB dealers around here (VA and MD) and there were none '07 CDIs on RClass on dealers' inventories. Back in Feb/Mar, when I bought mine, there were easily 3-4 out of 10 on their lots.

thanks for responses

yes, have done more homework in last 2 days and found that there are precious few left...in the whole U.S. quite frankly. And the ones that are out there are all silver or white it seems. If it doesn't work out we'll wait for the 2009, though I'm concerned my wife will get antsy and want to just settle for the new Toyota Highlander when it comes out in August. Not terrible, but not an MB.

My "hunch" is that Mercedes Benz North America may bring out the full "Bluetech" diesels for the ML,GL, and R class earlier than the normal August/September model year launch. The word that the MBNA people have been saying now for several months is that they will introduce the first 50 state certified diesels in the SUV models. (My understanding is that the reason for that is that they are having to work out where to put the container for the adblue liquid in the E Class. In the R, ML, and GL they have much more space to work with and that is not much of an issue.) Because California is such a large market for Mercedes, I would not be suprised to see an early launch of the 2009 models of the diesel version of the SUV's. Again, that is just my "hunch" on that.

Nice to see a diesel forum has been added

Will shift any new questions to the diesel forum. This would include the availability of ULSD.

Whats so GD stupid is that you can buy a big suv that uses 3 times more fuel and thats alright. For some reason I`m not surprised.\

Me: 2015 MB GLK250 BlueTEC, Wife: 2015 MB ML250 BlueTEC
the R, ML, and GL 50 State Bluetec's will be released as 09 models in August of 08. 08 E-Class Bluetec's are available in very limited numbers right now in California, and will be available in New York as of Jan. 01 08 in limited numbers. The CA and NY vehicles can only be leased thru MBF for 27mo. until the 09's are out.
