R-owners - Change your own Oil - Here's How

Hi. My first oil change today. Pics attached are for reference only. Although I used Mobil 1 0W-40 (Exxon) synthetic European Formula, MB recommendeds others on Sheet 229.3 or Sheet 229.5. Rumor is Mobil jacked the price of their Synthetic motor oil recently.

I took out the belly pan only to find it's untouched and had hard time taking off drain plug with my bare muscle.
I then bought the two way suction pump at Amazon and it did a very good job sucking out almost 8.5qts of oil. The only problem is that the tubes will disconnect easily after some heat and lube from the oil thus spilling all over.
I used a round locking filter wrench for the oil filter.

Oil extraction pump is the way to go. No mess, no need to get under the car and no need to remove anything from underneath. This is also standard practice at the dealer. Have been doing this on all my cars for awhile with GREAT results. You can pick them up on ebay, tool supply stores, and West Marine. Enjoy!

ROSS, which part of Western Canada are you located? I'm looking for 0W-40 oil in Vancouver but with no luck so far. Hope you can help!

Nice writeup. I too am a fan extraction over drain, but either way works. Plus it beats paying the stealership for such a simple procedure.

For those of you leasing, keep all your receipts. MB Financial may bill you at lease end if you don't show proof of scheduled maintenance being done. I'll be doing the same with my R350.

Where to buy Mobil-1

Hey XRX - my car came from the Richmond area. I had the same difficulty and looked at Canuck Tire, and everywhere else, and then found you can get Mobil-1 0W-40, European Formula, at Bumper to Bumper. Amazing but true - they also can order you the Napa Gold 7078 filter (that is Made in Germany) - although MB talks about a fleece filter. Next time I'll buy one from MB to see if there's a difference. The Napa came with a couple extra odd sized O-Rings - and I think one may have been for handle end of the dip-stick. I replaced the two small ones on the tip of the filter cartridge and the large one around the cap. The copper Drain Bolt Washer is MB part # 007603-014106.
If you want most kms between changes, use sheet 229.5 - other recommended oils include Mobil SHC Formula MB 5W-30, Pennzoil Platinum European formula Ultra (5W-30), and Valvoline SynPower MB 5-W30, Valvoline SynPower MXL 5-W30.

Update on the O-rings - there are supposed to be leftovers - since the filter is the same for the ML - which, if you examine plastic spindle for, has a different configuration/O-ring size. So the leftovers are simply leftovers.

Woo hoo. (no dipstick o-ring).
