Where is the battery?

I need some help. I was trying to follow the instruction from the driver manual and get to the car battery under the passsenger side seat. Not sure what I did wrong but I wasn't able to flap the carpet (not sure it is even possible) under the seat to get to the battery.

Anyone here has seen the battery and can share some tips? I have a R500 with memory seats and I assume it should make no difference.

Thanks in advance.

First-time access requires cutting the carpet.

Just in case ... there are jumper contacts in the engine compartment.

I have PDF file manual for R320, R350,R500 and R63 and did not show anywhere that you have to cut the carpet to access to the battery. (Only show slide the passenger forward and remove some screw, rails etc.. to get to the battery.

Show me the page, please.( if that the case, it is stupid design)

That sounds like an awful place to put a battery...are there 2 of them in the R 1 in the trunk one up front in the engine bay like other models?

The quickie way that some techs use is to make a cut in the carpet. I personally think thats not acceptable to do and at any rate its not alot of work to get to the battery. You do move the seat forward and remove the grilleand fold back the carpet. The carpet is *very* stiff and wedged under the seat rails so it is not easy to get out. If you are having alot of trouble the easiest thing to do it to remove the 4 torx bolts holding the seat in place and either lean it back against the rear seat or move/tilt it forward to completely expose the carpet seams.

It is a PITA, there is a cut already in the carpet on the outer edge of the seat support near your foot. You can pull that up and access the positive terminal just be careful and not get seat mechanism grease on the carpet.
