Mercedes-Benz USA's Sales Drop 32.1 Percent In December 2008

Capping off a horrendous past several months, Mercedes-Benz USA continued their year-end downward spiral in December, with sales at MBUSA totaling 18,507 new units – a decrease of 32.1 percent when compared to December of 2007. As a result, Mercedes-Benz USA's 2008 sales amounted to a grand total of 225,128 new units – a decrease of 11.2 percent when compared to the prior year.

And while normally this is the part where I'd tell you what models performed best last month, to be honest, there weren't any that did perform well. Every model in the Mercedes lineup noted a double digit sales decrease in December, save one: the G-Glass. With sales of 128 units (ten less than December 2007), it noted a sales decrease of only 7.2 percent. The second model performing slightly less than terribly was the C-Class, with sales dropping 11.7 percent – far better than the R-Class' 59.8 percent drop.

Thanks for the data. Anybody who is shopping for a new car needs to know this, as it is essential when neg. a deal. Any numbers on the ML?

58% drop is not good, but keep in mind it's off a tiny base.

R350
The thing with Saks Edition is.... It's pretty loaded, but most of them has no power lift tailgate. We looked at 06 R350 in November 08. Offered at 27.5K OTD here in CA. However, after much closer look, we found it does not have power lift tailgate. We also saw a 06 R500 offered at 29K plus tax. Again, no power liftgate. Does yours have it???

Every Saks R-Class is optioned the exact same way, as far as I know. No power liftgate, no Xenon and no keyless go. But, it's got the best looking interior, with the aluminum trim instead of wood (ala R63 AMG). And the 1/2 1/2 alcantara/leather seats are nothing short of outstanding. Plus it comes with the cooler looking 19" wheels. Plus airmatic and 3zone climate.

With that said, I wish I would've waited another year and got a super loaded one for peanuts, like you people are doing.

Enjoy your great deals, people. I'm jealous as I'm losing a ton on mine.

2006 ML500
I am the one who initially started this thread and I am glad to let you know I finally pulled the trigger. However, it ended up being a ML500 instead of the R350. What made me switch? First, there was no dealer in my area that was willing to go as low as I wanted. The dealer I was working with suggested that I look at this ML500 CPO that just came into their dealership. It is a '06 w/21K miles, White w/ tan interior, and a clear carfax. Further, it had all the options I was looking for. They were asking $32K and I got it for $28.5. It is quite a nice ride and has the space I need. Thanks all for your replies.
