Child-proof rear door lock

I know other vehicles have a small switch inside the rear door to activate the rear child-proof lock. On the R, I notices the owner manual never mention such function, but I do see a small hole at the rear door except there is no information of what the hole is for. Does anyone know if there is a child-proof lock function on the R?

Yes. There is a child proof function if you have the auto door lock feature on. All doors will automatically lock when speeds reach a certain mph and only driver and passenger doors can then be unlocked using the handle inside. The rear doors remain locked until the driver presses the unlock button or one of the front doors are opened. A bit of a hassle for those without kids, but a nice safety feature none the less so I continue to use it.

IMO that's better than child lock. Now you can finish the conversation with your kids before they jump out to school.

It's mainly a safety feature, if the car is in an accident the rear occupants couldn't open the doors for themselves to get out with the old child lock button. With the electronic feature it works the same way as old child locks but if the car is in an accident it can automatically unlock the doors.

HELP! Rt rear passenger door won't close due to flipping "childproof lock switch"

I have a 2006 R350. My 2 yr old son likes to pull open the door while driving. I flipped the switch on the door thinking that there was a child proof lock feature. I was WRONG! Now the freaking door won't latch/close. What in the heck am I supposed to do now? has this happened to anyone else? I tried unlatching the switch with a pen and screwdriver but the darn thing won't budge. HELP!

Use your steering wheel buttons and the multifunction display to set automatic locking to ON.

My R-Class does not have Child Lock door. I understood everything that you are explaining but my youngest Child 2 year reached to open the knob at the door and tried to open the door. This is not safe can this be fixed. The door has the small hole.

Unhappy R350 childproofed door won't open

Hi, Someone flipped the childproof switch "on" (its at the rear of the door itself) and the manual says clicking the master key fob from outside the car will unlock the child's door. Not working. Both key fobs are working fine and have good batteries. Any suggestions?
