Best Bluetooth approach for 2007 R500 with Harman Kardon
Hello R Friends,
My 2007 R500 with Harman Kardon audio and--as far as I know-- some fibreoptics does not have integrated bluetooth.
I looking into a formal upgrade to get that, but we're talking $1200 which is totally not justified expenditure.
HOW did you solve the need to have hands-off blue tooth telephoning. Ideally with the audio coming in through the speakers, and--even more ideally--also with the ability to play my phone's music over the speakers.

Hi Marc, sadly not. The car has a lot of the options on board, but not the handsfree phone package. Sad... Unless somebody replaced the front center console tray which would normally have the phone receptacle in it, but that is highly unlikely.

If your vehicle has been prewired, you can just buy a used phone module off eBay and then the cradle and a Viseeo unit for the bluetooth interface. Even if the phone system isn't installed, a lot of Benz's come prewired. Otherwise, there are units out there that get installed in place of your CD changer - they work just like the factory BT except that you lose the CD changer.

Here is a unit for European cars - I don't know where you're from. It might also work on NA cars but you'd have to inquire.

Hi Marc, thanks for thinking along. Awesome! Mine is a Canadian i.e. (likely) North American. Been purchased and operated in Canada all its operating time.
Any idea how to check if it is prewired? (I have the official MB workshop DVD).

Inside the armrest, you will like have to pull out the inside liner and see if there is a cable in there. I did this on my E-class and located it. It can be a little cumbersome, but maybe you can find a DIY.
Do you know which head unit you have? If you don't already have navi, you may just want to upgrade the head unit with a Pioneer or something like that. I saw one company sells a Mercedes amp interface so that you can keep the HK amp and sub.

Hi Marc, missed that one post of yours. We do have the navigation build in. I start to lean towards an external high-end one. Leaving the R system As Is, and adding a stand-alone high end hands-off set. All depends on time available :-)
