Questions about 2010 Interior

I've been unable to find a 2010 R-Class in the Chicago area to examine in order to help me figure out what to order. Maybe someone here could help.

If you order the 7th-seat option, does that seatback fold down to make an armrest? If so, does that armrest have cupholders and a storage bin?

I have seen some pictures of 2009's showing the rear-passenger DVD players neatly enclosed in a color-keyed surrounding and some pictures showing the DVD players looking as if they were just stuck onto the seatbacks. How are they mounted in a 2010?

My dealer says you can get leather seating surfaces as a $1500 option, but the mbusa website "build your own" feature doesn't show that option, instead showing only MB Tex.

Also, the mbusa website has interior photos that show a light cream interior, but the "build your own" feature only shows black, light grey, and tan as interior color choices. My dealer says there is an additional color -- Java -- that is cream colored (but java is usually a coffee color). What's really available?

The 2010 Bluetec is shown as having blue-tinted windows standard, and the 2010 gas R350 shows privacy windows as standard. What's the difference?

Any help would be appreciated. It's not that I don't trust what the dealer tells me. Just kidding . . . I don't trust what a car dealer tells me.

If you order the seven seat option, yes that seat back folds down to make an awkward looking arm rest, but no it doesn't open or have cup holders. There are however cup holders in the back of the center console.

The leather interior option was dropped back in 2008 for U.S. spec cars, but its still available in other markets, so done as a special order you might be able to still get it. The Java color sounds like a stretch, as that color isn't available in any markets that I'm aware of.

The MBUSA interior shots are of the Cashmere interior, the same one thats in the build your own.

As far as the glass goes, the website claims the R350 Bluetec has the same glass thats available as part of the Sport Package, which is the two front windows are tinted blue (ala the older Sport packages available on the sedans) and the rear windows are dark tint privacy glass. The R350 windows are dark tint all around as standard, unless you order the Sport Package.

"java" has traditionally been Mercedes name for the tan.

So it's darker than the "Cashmere" shown on the website?

By the way, I've found a few pictures of rear DVD players installed in 2009 R-classes (which I assume will carry over to 2010). Does anyone know why M-B went from a nicely-integrated enclosure behind the headrests to an installation that looks as if an aftermarket unit was just hung on the backs of the front seats?

I believe the 09s are 8 inch diag and the older ones were 7 inch. IMO, the 7s are too small for viewing from the 3rd row. So maybe this was the reason? The problem is the neck pro headrests are relatively small and going larger than 7 stuck onto the back would look awkward. Asides from aesthetics, the real problem with the 09s is that they sit lower than before. So does that really help 3rd row viewing anyway? Its a real dilemma on how to add monitors into these cars, esp since they have to accomodate the pano roof cars too.

Hi AsianR350, I remember I benefit from your posts on LED driving lights :-) I found this post when I searched for the bracket-type cup holder for R-class. Is that in your photos standard in the US? I don't have that in my R and have been looking for the part number for it. I saw one from ebay and the part number was stated as 2516800814, but all MB parts dealers here could not find it in teh database. Wondering if you have any clue? Cheers.

Yes, mine is standard.
The cup holder is part of the front center console.

Yes, that part number is invalid--the seller is a dismantler and could be reading that number from the part--that's not always a valid number and they're easy to misread, too.

The eBay listing lists this as rear cup holder, too.

The closest valid part number is 251 680 31 14, which is a center seat cupholder. This is all part of option 575, center console for second seat row.

Thanks AsianR350. Lucky you, to have that option as standard in the US. This makes me wonder why this option does not seem to be available elsewhere. I hope it is not because of someother things is occupying that part of the console, otherwise even if I found this part I cannot install it...

Thanks lkchris. I guess you are right about the seller on ebay. Regarding the part number I can actually get a bit closer by locating the front console drawings. There is of course also the cup holders for the front passengers, just that this bracket-type cup holder is not shown on that drawing. I guess I will keep searching... :-)
