GPS Navigation question.

GPS Navigation question.
Last time I checked with my MB dealer for retrofit GPS Navigation and was told that the dealer do not retrofit it.
So I just installed brand new 2008 DVD drive that came with 2008 Navigation DVD (Paid $614.00 including shipping from ebay)
The installation time was less than 2 hours and it works great so far.
I called my service advisor and ask about enable GPS Navigation system so it registers in MB data base that my R is equipped with Navigation system. (The total cost of re-program is $110.00)
My questions are:
1) Do I need to bring the car to dealer to re-programing?
2) Does the instrument cluster show any GPS turn by turn after re - program? (mine does not show).

Instrument cluster should should show what street and direction you are currently on and heading when no route is selected and should give turning instructions when a route is selected. At least that's what mine does...

Are you refer to the LCD at the Command or the instrument cluster at steering wheel?
Mine does show street and direction at LCD Command but not at the instrument cluster.

Hi AsianR350, does the 08 navigation unit has a flash drive for the MP3?
I have a 06 command center with nav and Sirius and am wondering how difficult to swapped it with the newer version.

I have the same Command center as yours (06,07,08) , I just added the DVD drive.(inside and on top of Command unit).

Typically Mercedes won't install options aftermarket. You have to do it yourself (ie. my foglights). But once done, they are happy to activate the option so the car recognizes it's new option load, and adds the full functionality (ie. my fog lights suddenly worked after they were activated by the dealer). My navigation system does show the direction etc. in the small system display between the gauges when flipping thru the menus. Well worth the money.

I have an '06 with the Command/Navigation unit. It has a "SAT" Button. When I push it, it has several options "greyed" out, and says something like Satellite Radio not installed"
I called my local dealer, and was told that Satellite Radio was not an option on the '06. I asked then why the button? He says don't know, not an option! I so want this to work...any ideas? Do I have it or not? Can I get it or not?

I discovered Pandora (www.pandora.com). If your cell phone has web capability and can connect to your iPod connector jack in the glove box, you can get Pandora on your phone. Choose AUX from the Audio options and you can control the music volume from the usual locations.
W/Pandora, you choose the artist(s) and song(s) you want to hear. You can enter them online or on your phone's browser. In 3-4 months of use I haven't heard the first ad. Try it on your computer first and then on your phone. It makes Sirius et al obsolete.

We use it for the kids...disney and the such...
I found a Comand unit that says it is coded for navigation, sirius, and backup camera...I think I want it....I need to find out what else I need to make it all work!
