My rear hatch wont open

I have a 2007 R350. Im having a problem with my back rear hatch door for the second time. It tries to open but seems like something is holding it back. The first time the dealership fixed it last year. (under warranty). They said it was the motor. Now its doing the exact same thing.
Yep you guessed it, its out of warranty.
Has anyone had this problem?

Friend of mine is a journeyman tech for MB, although not an MB dealer close to me. Anyway my car was doing the same thing and I asked about it. He told me it has nothing to do with the motor. It has to do with the way the hatch aligns to the back of the car. Check to see if your hatch and the body are aligned identically when in the closed position. I couldn't tell on mine just by looking then my friend had me run my hand across the body and hatch and then I could tell. He said when they get these cars in for this they have to loosen the hinges on the sides and let the hatch close and re-align these points then tighten them back down. If that doesn't work they have to try and align the lower striker.

My hatch has never fully stopped opening like you mentioned but it has done the thing where it tries to open then sucks back in. If I enable it to open again it will. On my car it's about every 10-15 times it gets confused. I admit I'm sick of it too, I wish I had sprung for an R with the standard non-power hatch to be honest.

My daughters R had a similar problem with the rear hatch. It would close fine but "stumble" when she tried to open it. The dealer fixed it and told her it was an alignment issue (as mentioned by R.Klasse ealier).
Even though your primary warranty has expired, the dealer should give you 12 months on the hatch repair they did "last year" depending on when it was done last year. It's likely a very low cost issue for them to fix and would earn them some customer loyalty.

Thanks guys. I figured it couldnt be the motor if it went twice. It just seeems like something is preventing it from opening. I will try to align it some kinda way. Its a pain in the azz. I use my trunk space atleast 10 times a day.
If the alignment doesnt work i will call the stealer.
Thanks again.

Magicman, I feel your pain.

My car is three years old and I've gotten tired of asking the dealer to fix the hatch problem. I've developed patience with it. I wish you good fortune in getting yours fixed.

Thanks guys for the info. But Ive looked around the back hatch door area and I dont know what the heck im looking for.
Are these side pieces what I should be looking for?
If so, I did have my tech look at it and adjust them. He loosened them and moved them over to the direction of the arrows and then tightened them up.
No change.

Yes this is exactly what your suppose to adjust. My tech says something to the tune of... loosening those hinges, then put grease on the strikers x2 Then close the hatch. When the hatch opens you can see where the grease is making contact. Then tighten down. If this doesn't work you need to move to step #2 and adjust/ align the striker at the floor.

Thanks for the reply R KLASSE. I really appreciate your help.
Lol. What are the strikers x2? I apologize for sounding like an idiot.
Striker at the floor. Is that the piece that those pieces shown rests on when the door closes? lol
