Saw the 2011 R-class at the dealership today

Went to the MB dealership today and saw a blue 2011 R350 Bluetec at the lot. (did not bring my camera... )

The first impression is "ok". Have it park side by side with my 2006 R500 and they don't look significantly different. May be it is the color but I don't feel it is as nice as the photos. Another thing I don't care about is the side mirrors are definitely way too big.

Btw, the new rear lamps do look very similiar to the current R and wondering can I swap them to my R500.

ps. I also saw the new Porsche Caynene. It is totally ruined by the "Hyundai" looking rear end.

Probably so, same body on the rear of the vehicle. The front clip is mainly whats been changed on the 2011 model.

I'm positive you could swap the tail lights with no problem. The only thing that changed on the rear portion is the bumper and exhaust.

By the way...one of my complaints with my R class is how small the mirrors are...way too small for a vehicle of its size. So I'm willing to bet the larger mirrors will be a welcomed edition for many.

I think it looks good from the front or from the rear. To my eyes, from the side it looks like an oversized Volvo. Don't like the new hood at all.

It will require a new rear SAM to operate LED taillights.

They're smaller .... you can't swap .
A new SAM is needed too.

Thanks, VelociRaptor. The rear lamps are so much nicer than the current R's.

They will fit, got to replace the bumper with the lights. 2011 tail lights with 2011 rear bumper, thats how you will have to do it. Straight from a German engineer I talked to today.

Makes sense to me, seeing how they only changed the tail lights, bumper, and exhaust ports..the sheet metal is all the same. Speaking of exhaust ports...you might run into some problems there, although I think they just changed the actual tips...but thats still more money you have to fork out.
