How long did your tires last?

Got our R CPO with 25K on it, as part of the CPO process the dealer puts new OEM tires on the car. Anyway, my wife drives 44 miles round trip to work everyday we've owned the car, plus we've gone on a few trips. Anyway I washed the car the other day and noticed the tires still look new, hardly any wear and we have almost 45K miles on the odometer. I was expecting to burn through a set every 20K miles being an AWD? Our previous car a 2008 C300 sport with the OEM 18" wheels had bald rear tires at 25K miles and the fronts were bald on the edges and the centers were about 40%.

I feel like I will easily get another 30-40K miles out of these tires. Oh the tires are Conti 4x4 contact or something to that tune and are 19".

My experience with Contis 4x4 is the exact opposite. I have only 16K miles on the tires and they need replaced because they won't pass inspection. They have been rotated ever 5K miles and there aren't any tire defects. They simply wore out. In fact you are the first person that describes such an experience with the OEM Contis. Perhaps your type of driving is totally different than mine? I drive a 60/40 mix city and hwy.

Yeah like I said we had the Conti sport extreme contact or whatever it's called on the C300 and I almost didn't think I would get 20K out of those.

Complete opposite with my R though? It's clear they are a much taller tire in profile. My wife’s commute though is all highway no city the entire way to work so that may be the reason.

What experience have you had with these? I am looking at new tires and one of my choices is the Michelin Latitude HP Tour for 18 in wheels also

I placed an order at a local store today for a set of Michelin Latitude HP Tour 255-55-18s. The store didn't have them in that size in stock so they will get them in a couple of days. The clerk told me that there were two different types of the same model:
a) 255 55 18 - H rated with 105 load rating
b) 255 55 18 -H rated with 109 load rating (for this tire the computer listed a size of 255 55 18 - 109V and next to it a rating of H so we assumed the listing was wrong and this indeed is a V rated tire. The michelin book listed it as a V.

The clerk told me that for the H rated tire (a) they were out of stock and would take a couple of weeks or more to get them. So I decided to go ahead with the V rated tire since the clerk said that there are no major differences other than the fact that the V is constructed with stiffer walls which will translate to better handling, and also the fact that is rated for higher speeds.
I welcomed the extra load rating since my R500 is a heavy beast but I am wondering if there are any drawbacks with 109 vs 105 load index and V rated all season tires as opposed to H rated other than cost? Any differences in behavior in snow/wet road? What are your experiences or thoughts?

I'm mostly highway on my 08 R320.

I got about 33,000 miles from my OEM Continentals that came with the car. I did get the Michelin Latitude and liked them. I now have 79,000 miles on the car and if I was coming into a Wisconsin summer - I'd keep them on the car.

I liked the Michelin tires and will buy them again. But, this time around, I'm going to try the Bridgestone's because I've liked them on previous cars.

Only difference will (should) be noise between the two versions.

Our CPO came with awful Cooper tires. Just replaced them all Bridgstones after one got a puncture.

I like the Michelin Latitude Tours. Got the 255 55 R18's installed at 28,606 kms in Februarty of 2009, and removed them this winter at 67,533 kms, with lots of tread-life left for summer 2011. That's 40,000 kms and still another easy 12,000 kms of summer driving. (Bought another set of 17" Michelin Latitutde's for winter - same kind .. no need for grippies with AWD).

My wife put 33425 kilometers (20890 miles) on our R320 with the original Continental 4x4 tires worn to 3/32". I replaced them with Yokohama Geolander HT/S 255/55R18 109H. I just changed over to winter tires and after 10154 kilometers (6345 miles) they are showing ~ 1/32" of wear maybe a bit more. We might get 40000 - 45000 kilometers out of them.
