2008 R350 P1 package?
Can some of you fill me in (so to speak) on what is included on the P1 package?
Is there anything I need to be aware of for this particular vehicle?
And do any of you have a pdf of the '08 brochure?
Thanks.
That helps a lot.
For those of you with the park distance control, it is described as audio and visual displays in the vehicle...what are the visual displays? I don't think the 350 I'm looking at has a rear camera, so I'm curious what the visual displays would be.
By the way, here's the one I am considering:

I paid brand new for $41,100 and now currently has 13,000 miles on odometer.
That R350 w/ P1 package doesn't not have camera back up and Navigation. The one that 'smokersteve" showed has Navigation.
I had to install OEM Nav drive myself for under $700.00 (dealer charges over $2000.00) and aftermarket B/u camera.
BTW, it looks like this 2008 R350 is Rear Wheel Drive version (Not All Wheel Drive). There is no "4matic" emblem in the rear.
2006 and 2007 model are all wheel drive even they do not have "4MATIC" emblem except 2008 model which have 2 versions.
For visual, there are inline left/right LEDs at the dash board and one in the rear dome light.

I'm not so interested in the Navigation, but the back up camera would certainly come in handy. What did you do for your after-market back up cam?
Also, will the non-nav, non-dvd entertainment screen accept video from other sources, like ipod or after market back up cam, or something?

For my back up camera display aftermarket, you have to mount LCD display separately and can not be intergrated into the COMMAND LCD display. (Mine does not come with OEM back up camera)

The MB NAV , park sensors and backup camera are some of the worst in industry. I have had these options on Toyota, Honda, and Audi and MB's is an embarassment. This may be why JD Powers and Consumer reports give low ratings to electronics for MB.
I would not sweat getting either of these on the R class. For NAV, get a handheld. Not as convenient, but just yesterday I was on a trip and relied on my Blackberry Google map instead of the MB NAV. For back up camera, try Midcityengineering.com. They have a VIM interface that may be able to add a rear camera too.
As for the backup camera. When you start the car, there is a tremendous boot time. You have to be quite patient for it to start up. Many times, I am halfway down my driveway before it boots up. Worst I have experienced. Also, the angle is way too low. It is aimed too much at the space immediately behind the bumper to see small kids and toys that may be there. It is difficult to see objects in the distance say more than 10 feet away because of the angle - further aggravating that is a warning message that does not go away right at the top of the screen that obstructs the field of view. You have to squint down to really see cars and people who may be approaching.
As for the Parktronic - another disappointment. I find the audible sensors inconsistent. Sometimes they give a progressive warning - other times they start beeping only when you are mere feet away from an object. So back up slowly! Also, you have to rely on the audible sensors because the visual indicator in the rear is hard to see. They are small LED lighs on the ceiling above the rear hatch and hard to see in the reareview mirror.
Overall, when I drive the R, I pretty much use the old school methods to back up. Mirrors, turn my body to side, etc. A real pity for a nice car.

You will be more confident getting out of a tight parking lot when you can see how far you are from a parked car behind you.
