lightbulb replacement.

I always maintain this 2006 R 500 at the dealer. This time, I got the trouble with the front left light and I hope I don't have to spend another day for bulb replacement at the dealer.

Should I go to the dealer for replacement of lightbulb or I can go any shop such as Pepboys?

Has anybody done by own hands at home?

Thank you for the rescue!

Depends on whether you have halogen bulbs or xenon. Do you have fogs? If so, then I believe all 2006 equipped with fogs have xenon lights ( someone correct me here). These are expensive.

If not, yes, you can go to Pep Boys and replace the halogen bulb itself. Its fairly easy, a cap screws off the inside of each light, but akward replacing it from the "side" of the housing. I would do pairs so the light color matches.

If your car has standard H7 bulbs and your dealer takes a day to replace it, find a new dealer or bring it to my house...

2006 R Lights

If you check out the automotive section at Sylvania.com and enter Mercedes Benz R you can print out the entire list of every bulb the R has. You can do it yourself and yes Autozone or Pep Boys has them. The 06 like mine did not come with Xenon Lights. Ebay has a kit made just for the 06 R for about $350. I just purchased the super white H7 bulbs for the headlights on ebay for 9 bucks for the pair, installed them and they produce the same Blue tint super bright light.

aggst 1---This is what I stated "The 06 like mine did not come with Xenon Lights".Yet you are saying NOT TRUE. First of all you have a R500 that must also have FOG lights. Mine is a R350 that didn't come with FOG lights hence THE 06 LIKE MINE not YOURS! All 2006 R's that didn't have FOG lights didn't have Xenon Blubs. Very few came with them in 06 that's why there is a kit made just for 2006 R's.

Sorry but this is the first you mention anything about R350 and fogs. You are steering the OP towards conventional bulbs when it is not clear if he has Xenons or not. I misread your comment but if you read it again how can anyone imagine what your R is like unless you tell us.

No, but that is the site where you can print the Type & blub numbers for all of them.

Just installed PIAA Xtreme White Plus H7 bulbs on my R350. Look pretty nice but not quite the look you get from HID or Xenon but still brighter than the factory bulbs. Did a lot of research on a few brands (Silverstars Ultra, Philips Extreme Vision, Luminics Krypton Titanium White) and decided to buy the PIAA on ebay for $50.00. I hope they last more than a year..

I was just like you shopping the whole continent with H7 bulbs and just a month ago I installed a Philips HID kit for my headlights and my foglights. Cannot beat. Love it.

I believe the rule of thumb is this: If you have headlight washers (pop ups), you have xenons. If you have xenons, you also have fog lights. If you have no fog lights, you have standard halogen bulbs. I went through quite a process but successfully installed factory fogs with existing wiring and a factory headlight switch to activate them - after they were activated by the dealer.

FYI our dealer here has recently been offering to change bulbs for free - I've recently had my '06 headlight bulbs just burn out and I bought the relatively inexpensive halogens or whatever they are, and they popped them in for me. Ditto now for both my taillights which have burned out, and the system has activated the spare bulb in both for the time being.

Just replaced the H7 on my wife's 06 R-350. First time on the R so th ecloth gloves didn't help "get the feel". I would start with left side first to get the feel of the connectors because you have more working space. Once I figured out the proper method of turning the connector CCW while gently pulling the plug outward (about 15 minutes), I did the right side with the tighter work space in about a minute. Bought the Sylvania silverstar at Wal-mart for about 10.00 each.

FWIW, you only need a cloth when touching the glass...ie. inserting the bulb into the connector. Once that is done, you can freely touch the connector/socket with bare hands.
