Recall - Camshaft Solenoid
I went in for scheduled service today and was told there is a recall for 2008 R-class vehicles related to potentially faulty camshaft solenoid. Free replacement. This recall may include more model years but I was told it definitely included 2008 models.

2006 R350. 2005 C230K
They carried out the recall on my 2006 too when I took it in to check for leaking fluid. Looks like it is just the harness that they replaced.
This is what printed on the receipt:
Camshaft adjustment solenoid wiring harness, retrofit adapted/C 59 900 02 7 OP # 027325
4 271-150-01-56-05 Engine Wiring
4 002-997-24-90 Cable tie

Thanks,
I will bring this up to my SA next yearly inspection (4/13) at my dealer.(just emailed my SA to check out this recall if it applies to my 2008 R350)
Update:
Found this on line:
Check Engine Light Due to Faulty Camshaft Adjuster Solenoid
The camshaft adjuster solenoid (which is related to the variable valve timing system) may fail or timing chain/balance shaft components may wear, resulting in illumination of the Check Engine Light and various drivability issues. Mercedes-Benz has released a service bulletin outlining specific repair instructions depending on fault codes stored.

Yes, my 2008 R350 is applied this campaign.
Here is my SA message:
Hi Larry,
How are you?
Yes your vehicle applies to this. It does not take verfy long to do so you can schedule this with us and wait for it. I'll
treat you to breakfast at Perkins.
Give us a call and the girls will schedule you in at your
convenience. Mornings are best.
Take care,
Pete
For those folks who own 08 R350, call the dealer for info.

Just got my 08 R350 Camshaft adjustment solenoid wiring harness replaced without charge. On the bad side, my vehicle needs new main battery for $300 & $125 for labor + tax = $450.50 OUCH!!!!.

I could do it myself but decided to have the dealer did it because I was there this morning to have the solenoid wiring harness replaced.

Hello all,
My 2008 r350 is currently in the shop for a CEL and it was also due to the camshaft solenoids. However, the SA is telling me that it doesn't apply to the magnets. He gave some analogy like 'close but no cigar'. Basically, the magnet though part of the solenoid is not included in the TSB. Anyone experience this issue?
Is not the cam magnet part of the camshaft solenoid?

Update - Just got a call. My SA said the TSB is quite convoluted in how they describe the cam sensor. They weren't sure if it included the solenoid/magnet or not, but went ahead and performed some customer service and covered it. Are solenoids and magnets the same thing? Either way, they fixed it free!

I just had ours replaced due to a long term CEL but they claimed it was not covered by the recall. They did replace the harness for "free" though.
I'm a bit skeptical still of the dealer we recently switched to.
On the battery... there is nothing easy about changing it. Mine was DEAD while pulled forward in a parking spot at my wifes work. Mind you, the battery is under the ELECTRIC passenger seat, which means I had to:
- get the car in neutral
- beg some help pushing it uphill to a position I could reach the jumper cables
- start the car
- go park somewhere more convenient
- move the electric seat all the way forward
- turn off car
- cut carpet and partially destroy the battery cover (didn't have a torx in the emergency kit)
- change out (surprisingly large) battery
- go home and freebase some back pain medicine.

2006 R350
I recently learned (from the MB dealership) that my engine light is on due to a cam solenoid failure. I called Mercedes Benz N.A., explained my problem and asked for MB to pay for this failure. The customer service rep said that there was a campaign (that has since ended) but she didn't think that I would qualify it because the vehicle had not been serviced at a MB dealership.
For information, my 2006 R350 has only 89k miles on it and I am only the 2nd owner. The vehicle has been serviced at an independant service center that only services Mercedes at every scheduled maintenance. The vehicle has had no trouble up until now.
I have a couple of questions, 1)has anyone ever succeeded in having MB pay for the repairs and 2) does anyone know if not having the vehicle serviced at a MB dealership "void" any sort of accountability for MB to stand behind their product. I purchased the vehicle used without any extended warranty, so I was not aware that I had to have my car serviced at the dealership.
Any help that I can get would be much appreciated.
