Wow nice! I've only seen one R550 in person, and it is registered in the US. Are you in the US or Canada?

Does yours have black wood and ventilated front seats?

Generic,

I'm in Canada. I haven't seen any other R550 in my city (Calgary) either.
Mine looks exactly like the one in your pics; and no it does not have black wood or ventilated seats.
One previous owner, 40000 miles, been serviced at a MB dealership all its life.

I had Eurocharged flashed the ECU before it even got shipped over.

Not as rare as your R63, but it's the next best thing I could find.

With the nature of this car - a family hauler, I don't think I will see another R63 within reasonably low mileage. There's one for sale in Ontario now, but it's got 75,000 miles already.

I followed your build thread. Thinking about getting 21" rims for the summer as well.

I believe you got yours from this guy? What's your experience dealing with him?

These ML ones should fit the R as well, right?

R500 + SLK55 AMG
Congratulations silvastarr! A great find. It should be a really enjoyable and useful long term vehicle for you. I've had my lowly R500 for about 5 weeks and I love it. I really can't believe consumers turned their backs on this crossover/SUV/minivan/station wagon thing. Compared to a normal truckish SUV or crossover these R's are a lot more enjoyable to drive. I also can't believe Canada got the R550 and we didn't here in the U.S. We got screwed!

Yep ordered the rims from that guy.

Forum member 155 installed the same rims on his R and it's a perfect fitment. If you want to run flush, the rear may need a ~10mm spacer but the fronts will be perfect as it's ET48 all around. My OEM rims are ET60 all around (R Fitment) and it's not as aggressive.

https://mbworld.org/forums/r-class-w...ld-thread.html

Dealing with him is fine. He said he'd pay for spacers on the rear to bring it out before I bought the rims but he never ended up doing that... Oh well.

Funny thing about rarity, I've seen more R63s than R550s! I think my personal count is something like 9 to 1 right now.

BTW can you link me to the R63 for sale? I love keeping tabs on the used market.

Thanks for the referral to 155's thread!
I had come across it when I was "studying" the R before my purchase, but failed to retrieve it again at later time. Yours and 155's build threads give me lots of ideas on how to mod the car in near future.

I have a rather short TODO list:
1) 21" AMG rims
2) Tint (light on front windows, and dark on the amber corner lights)
3) Aftermarket door pins

Currently don't have the budget, but would be nice to have a set of AMG/aftermarket exhausts as well.

Speaking of door pins, I have had the toughest time removing the plastic factory ones. I believe it's the screw in/out type for 2008+ models? I've done it before on my W219 and it was a piece of cake.

Before going nuts on the mods, perhaps I should start putting money aside for future maintenance, judging from this forum's feedbacks I may need to sell my kidney.

This is the R63 aforementioned. You can request a car proof report for free from the seller, and that should give you the VIN as well.

I'd like to update the maps on my NTG2 Comand as well. Does anyone know what's the latest available DVD for NTG2? For the life of me I could not find any info on the N. America map DVD. All I found was for the Euro maps and I believe the latest version is v.14 for 2012-2013.

Your Command should be a MCS II NOT NTG. Anyways, this is the latest (and I believe last update) disc with 2012 maps: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Ben...b72b20&vxp=mtr

I just bought a 2011 map last year for $80 as there weren't any 2012 maps on eBay (so I thought that I had the newest version). Anyways, there's only three 2012s on eBay right now and they're kind of spendy, there's this auction I sent you and two are $140+ buy it now. MSRP on these discs are an absurd ~$240.

Please paint your amber marker lights body color, make sure the shop sands down the letters first. It looks so much cleaner than smoke, esp on a silver car.

Door pins are screw on on all four doors- should be the same on all year R Class.

I'd probably recommend doing STAR lowering on the rear just to get it in line with the front and then you should be set.

If you want the quad tips conversion- I'm working with a vendor in Vancouver, BC to do a carbon fiber three fin rear diffuser (which you'll have to change on yours) and if you're interested it can help keep costs lower.

Is the R63 you saw in Ontario the one in Oakville? At a car dealer? If so....I drove it. It is greyish (?) with a light dove grey interior? It was a HOOT! but...I decided to buy the R350 there instead...it was newer and the R63 already had a weird clunck from the assend (probably suspension related)....my wife and I decided that as much fun as it was we had better get the efficient reliable one...
Great car...never seen a R 550! cool!
