BG transmission fluid flush
Hello all, I was talking with a reputable independent Mercedes shop today about doing a trans fluid flush on my 06 R500 and I was asking about the fluid used. I have no record of the trans before serviced with fluid or filter change so I wanted to get this done. They stated they use BG fully synthetic ATF. I looked it up and it meets MB 236.12 spec but not the latest 236.14 spec. The shop stated they had used this ATF in these transmissions with great success. I had used this shop to do a conducter plate on my CLS 55 AMG with a 722.6 5-spd trans and the car runs like a champ.
Should I go forward or get the latest fluid spec?
Thank you!

I don't know if you can use the new spec.
I think the new spec is for a89 transmissions and above.
You have an 06. Check at fcp euro which fluid they recommend for you.
It'd really important to use only the spec fluid that was made frn your car. The newer fluid is built for the reduced friction transmission, which yours isn't.
If your doing the fluid, upgrade the tranny pan to the new one for a 5mm extra worth of fluid.

Hello, I looked at FCP Euro and the ATF fluid that comes up is:
Automatic Transmission Fluid 134 (5 Liter) - Pentosin 1088216
Red Fluid with Mercedes approval, 236.14 specification.I did not know a new trans pan for the 722.9 had not sump capacity..I thought of getting a new one anyway since mine has some rust spots on it although the rest of the undercarriage looks good. This from FCP Euro:Part #:
MER-2212701212
Product Details"....Very early 2004 model year vehicles could benefit from a pan replacement as the new pan Mercedes released is deeper and designed to optimize oil flow."

If you check their site you can see the whole kit. I wouldn't know what the difference is in ehe kit and hhe 1212. The 1212 is also an updated pan, so I'd really ask them why the set up their kit with this other pan number.

So fcp Euro lists a full kit for your car with a different part number for the pan then the 1212 pan number you listed.

Product Details from FCP Euro:This kit contains the larger factory OE transmission pan featured on 2012+ Mercedes models and the larger OE Filtran SmartMedia Triple filter. This upgrade provides more fluid capacity and better filtration which is crucial to extending transmission service life especially in 4Matic applications where the transfer case shares its fluid with the transmission.

Wonder what the difference is from the 1212. Must be slight changes.

You do not have a trustworthy shop. 236.14 is the required spec.
Know that use of BG products provides “points” to your mechanic for BG’s rewards program.
No Mercedes auto transmission ever needs “flushing.”

I want to change the torque converter fluid as well but not sure how to fill if these transmissions need to be filled from the bottom of the pan unless I just fill it and keep filling it till some fluid comes dribbling out of the overflow after getting to temp and cycling gears. Anyone know how many extra quarts are needed for torque converter change?
Thanks!
