Severe paint deterioration

2009 R320 CDI Bluetec
Severe paint deterioration

Has anyone experienced anything like this with their R-Class? This is the roof panel that sits aft of the sunroof. It's the only body panel on the car that has this, so there's definitely no way anything corrosive splashed on it and missed the other parts of the car. Thoughts?

Not uncommon for W251, W164, and X164 if I recall correctly. The rearmost panel is fiberglass and the paint isn't as durable there. Clearcoat there fades faster than other parts of the car.

In your case I would also suspect hail damage.

Nah. Can't be hail damage. None of the body panels next to this one have any similar spots. Hail doesn't choose just one little 14" X 20" body panel and leave the rest of the car untouched.

I was waiting to see the results from the person sanding. Like to know if he did that and looked great. It is fiberglass and it is glued down on all edges. I mean you can remove it with a sharp razor.

The wrap job is quite embarrassing. I absolutely failed. I was waiting to redo the wrap before posting, but I will go ahead and own up to this atrocity.
