disengage 4Matic 2012 R350
I have a 2012 R350 4Matic that clatters under acceleration due to a loose chain in the front transfer case. Is there a way to disable the 4Matic system to the front wheels until I can replace the chain? I have seen posts about a lever in the engine compartment that disengages the front transfer case on older 4Matic systems, but I do not know if that can be done with the newer 4Matic systems.

I hear you on that.

Hopefully, you can find a way to disengage the transfer case and still run the rear. Don't know what kind of codes the ECU would throw driving only the rear wheels.

I was hoping someone on the forum could help. I read that the older 4matic cars have a lever in the engine compartment that disengages the front transfer case. I have read posts about owners who disengage the front transfer case during the summer and then engage it during the winter.

No possible way to disengage it unless you physically take out the transfer case chain. Everything 4matic post-2005 with possible exception of the G series is fulltime AWD.

Even if you could disengage it, you'd then get ABS/ESP codes etc as the wheels will turn at different speeds and it would be a nightmare.
