Autocar and Top Gear panned the R63 as a "bit of a rush job." (TG). Both mags said it did not handle very well at all (though they said the ride, even on 21s was "beyond criticism." Autocar said that it would do more harm than good to the image of AMG.

Just food for thought.

Hell its a 5000 lb vehicle. You really think its possible to make it handle like an M5? No.

I would love to see the face on all the moms and dads in their LR's and RR's and RR Sports's along with the Odyssey and Sienna crowd when I smash the throttle and simply fly away. Of course, the odyssey is leaving the family and going to a family that will take good care of it.

Clay, the Odyssey is a great vehicle and does everything you ask for a minivan very well. It just needs some more power and opulance and thats where the R63 comes in.

I said nothing about the handling of R63 if you look at my post. I just thought providing more feedback may help other members considering the vehicle. I'm at a loss as to how that offended you. Oh well, no harm done.

Hey, seriously, I hear you: I looked at both the Odyssey and the Sienna, was going to go with a minivan at one of my residences, and was leaning towards the Sienna because the AWD would have been an asset at the given location.

I was going to order one with every 'luxury' option -- and live with the fact that I had to pay way too much for it, and that it would still have some Jap-car cheapness to it, because it would do so well at hauling a number of passengers.

I have been following the R since it first showed up as the Vision concept car at the very first carshow that it appeared at....

I just have to have an AMG version of a MBZ -- can't do the 'regular' ones -- even though getting 4-Matic in a sedan has often appealed to me.

That's why I have been anticipating the AMG version of the R to arrive for me to try one out. It may indeed be my multi-passenger, all-weather road conditions passenger vehicle. I am hoping I love the thing, and if so I will have a number of them spread throughout a number of residences....

I am going to try the GL, as well, for the same niche.

Two points:

1-This is a very positive report and sometimes inaccurate. I wonder if MB had something to do.
2-Autobahn bred? What does he means? This vehicle is made in Alabama, never touching an Autobahn (just the AMG parts have a ride in a truck to a dock to go to Tuscaloosa).

The R63 was engineered in Germany and is still a Mercedes-Benz product, meaning that is already built with the Autobahn in mind, doesn't matter where it is physically built.
