Can I see some more pics of Designo Mocha Black?
Any way I could see some closeups of Designo Mocha Black paint?
I am leaning towards painting another car this color.
Thanks in advance!

Look at the OEM muffler!
This is the original 1986 muffler that came with the car guys, driven in the Great White North of Toronto for 20 years (I must admit only with just under 100,000 miles).
MB makes great parts.

I cut off both "resonators" & put in 2 straight pipes
In case no one had noticed I would like to draw your attention to the straight twin pipes that replaced the two resonators (extra mufflers) normally located under the rear seats of the 560 SEL.
Psychologically faster if not actually faster and not much more noise.

All the best and more photos please
mramay,
That is one very sweet SEC. I love it.
How do your laws in Las Vegas affect mods like you are doing?
They are super strict here. I'm lucky to have got approval for my E55 mods with just a minimum of inspection when I complete it.
I think mine will end up being an SEL55.

The laws are not too bad here and if you are doing a newer, cleaner engine (the E-55 is a LEV or Low Emission Vehicle) and the 560 SEL is not so they are happy with such swaps.
Honestly you need good brakes. The most powerful engine in the W126 is the 300 horsepower European non-catalyst version so an extra 169 calls for bigger clamps. If you put in bigger 18 inch AMG rims and lower profile tires you can end up without doing anything to the speedo. You have to sort out the electronics that come with the new engine and transmission. Presmably they do not talk to the rest of the car.
Your project sounds expensive and the GM engine-transmission route makes sense but hey, if you have the green why not go for the best?
Good luck and keep us posted.

How do you do it?
And one more in the Mercedes Modification genre. The first photo is the before AND after for my modifications. The second photo is the cammed 2002 LS6 motor that will be mated to a modified 4L60E transmission, that will be over the GM rack & pinion steering gear that is in the SEC.

Did you consider the newer 6 speed GM automatics?

Hi Harkgar,
I'm with you on the brakes hence my querie, mass x acceleration and the acceleration will rise.
To keep my rolling radius within original specs, I've bought some RH ALURAD [AMG looking] rims in 17x10 and 17x9, with Khumo 285/40 and 255/45 tyres.
our registration requirements here are VERY strick, so I'm not permitted to change any of the engine ignition, fuel or emmissions equipment on the E55 implant. This leaves me no choice but to fit all of the E55 electronics, including the CAN BUS equipment.
I bought the complete wiring and computers from a wrecked 2005 E55, including the instrument cluster, gas pedal and shifter mechanism, [all electronically controlled] and I plan to build in as much of the CAN BUS as I have to and no more.
I'm keen to get started on it but I have other stuff happening that never seems to end, so I'm still researching and collecting bits. The AMG body kit arrives from Florida this week and the wiring, front pipes and cats before Xmas I hope.
My friend and I have equiped a workshop for 'playing' in and we've decided to extend [lengthen] it before the 560SEL goes in for surgery, so that will take a few weeks. We are enterying our summer when the temperature sit in the 40C [105F] and up range for days at a time and that's not comfortable in a metal shed, so maybe it will be cooler when we get into the 560.

I am living in Toronto, Canada, salt country, so it is tough for car bodies here. When I was in Brisbane and Sidney last year I saw numerous VW bugs, Peugeot 504s and other cars that had long turned into rust in North America. You are lucky.

Where you at in Jersey ? 1st thing - upgrade the yellow turn signals to clear corners. 2nd - paint the grill Black-not the chrome strips - with Krylon "fusion".Hide the yellow pine tree air freshner in the rear cargo net behind the drivers seat.
BTW - Welcome to the forum.

Treat her well. You will get a lot of enjoyment and mileage out of this baby. The only negative I can think of is mpg. Average is 13 mpg city-highway.

A COUPLE OF MY 126's
The sedan is a 1989 420SEL. I bought it from the estate of Perry Como.
When I pulled it out of Perry's garage, the odometer read 16,105 miles.
The coupe in the back ground is a 1991 560sec.

Nice ride , I live right near you.You should paint the grill black ( except the chrome strips ) and add some clear corners.

Yeah not far from me at all.
It does have the clear lenses on it now. The photos were taken when I brought it home from Florida.
The car really is to nice and to much of a time capsule to mess with it.
