Aussie,
What year is your 928? The most powerful GT had 360 horses. Is it stick? This V-8 has a timing belt not a chain and probably needs to be replaced. I have driven a 5 speed one in the early 1990s. It was very fast but heavy, not at all like the 911.
Is there a way you can get rid of the electronics in the E55 supercharged package? I read that Chevy and Ford sell brand new "crate" engines without emission equipment in the USA but otherwise identical to the OEM engines. If you can attach a throttle linkage to the new engine then maybe you can bypass all the electronics.
Keep us posted please.

I'm only aloud to register my 560 with the E55 motor if I don't alter the engine management, fuel system, emmissions system or the ignition, in any way. It must be inspected in the Government workshops when I'm done.

this is my 3rd 928! it's a 1981 4.7 litre, 300hp, 3 speed auto. I just sold my pristine 1994 928GTS quad cam 350hp because I didn't drive it enough and it was too much money for spiders to live in. I miss driving it, the GTS has supurb torque and great breaks. yes, they use a very long timing belt. Block very much like the Benz, all alloy, pitons run dirrectly in the alloy with no liners. I've just rebored it, new pistons and the whole catastrophe. I've been driving 928 for the last 15 years, I like them.

The 928 used the MB 4 speed automatic transmission because there was nothing strong enough to take the torque and power. I was unaware of a 3 speed used.
The 928 is a very expensive car to maintain here in Toronto, more so than a special class like the W126 or older vintage MB.
Good luck with your 55-SEL.

Like the 560 Benz, over 200kph before top gear change but unlike the 560, my GTS kept going to 275kph.
Manual 928 aren't much fun because the clutch is so heavy and a clunky shift. They have their fans though.
I much prefer driving the 560 Benz but the 928 is still a nice ride.

did you see Hasselhoff on You Tube?
Got me some new wheels
17x8" AMG Aero I Monoblock
These are wheels designed specifically for the W126 by AMG, with a nice, low offset of ET11 and the original AMG logo from when it was not part of Daimler-Chrysler, ie not ///AMG, they were also available for the W124 but in a different offset
Also put on a new rear bumper from a euro gen-2 126 which is deeper than the standard gen-1 euro which I had on, not a great deal different but, it looks better proportioned with it on

your right about the trans guts being Benz. The 3 speeds, 1978-1983 use the 450SEL 6.9 Litre trans. The 1994-95 928GTS Had a 'dynamic shift' 4 speed which are fantastic to drive, just a quick throttle movement, not flat to the floor, will shift it back. They also have traction control and that added to 255/45/17 rear tyres, the extra hp and torque makes them MUCH quick of the mark than earlier 928. The GTS was the only 928 to have the same top speed and acceleration for both the manual and auto.

Newbie... here is a picture of my Benz... has 109k miles, lowered on H&R's with Bilstein HD shocks... wheels are 19inch Maya STM on 235/35/19 Dunlop Tires... grille is from junction produce... was thinking to change my headlights to a newer model but i like my headlights, lets people know its an older w126 its rare to find a clean 380 SE... kudos to everyone else's rides...

That thing is SO bad *** Mr. Olsson. WOW.
Are those RH ZW2 Topline wheels by any chance? =) What sizes if so? And what size tires? Also, factory suspension or anything done to it?
