1991 300sl 5 speed manual
Japan and Canada
Since most of these were purchase in those countries I think it easer to ask someone in Canada or Japan. I have only seen a dozen or so in the last few years pop up on ebay SO I cant imagine how many. I still cant find out how many early 90s 300sl s were made with a 5 speed manual transmission.

1989 560sec AMG 6.0
AMG produced about 100 of them. mine is an 89 6.0 sohc and sold for 202k new. some people call the 6.0's the hammer, although some extremeists will cry about it when refering to a w126 because originally it was the w124 6.0 that was called the hammer by a magazine. back the production numbers...there are some that people have bought a car then got the parts and had local tuners throw them together. ive had mine for over a year now and its a great car but is no exception to the problems typical of a 126 such as the wonderful a/c, headliner sag and rear window discoloration.

My motor has a stamp on the passenger side valve cover, below and to the left of the oil cap. Mine shows 289/6.0/30. (It's 30 or 30-something). I'm told by Hartmut Feyhl of RennTech that these stand for the 89th motor (2nd production run or something like that), 6.0L, and 30 is the technichian identification number who built it. Does your have a sequence like this on the passenger valve cover? Mine's an '86. I've heard around 200 4v motors were built, but the 6.0's were the rarest.

i had this one sec come into the shop that was only w/ like 3,000 miles it was a 6.0 and it had twin cam heads on it...... this thing was amazing, now i regret not taking pix of it. it was a maroon color and it was widebody and it had extra wood inside.... the widebody was all steel.... looked like it was factory quality. belonged to a professional baseball player...... brought it in for a lifter noise but after further research i concluded that they were solid lifters he was hearing.,..... these true AMG cars are freakin amazing, this other guy has a w123 wagon w/ a 5.0 in it w/ some crazy headers and recaros... all the suspension was converted from a 560 w/ the antisquat rear end and the big brakes...... sorry for rambling...

Sorry about the delay, my internet setup has been messed up about a month now....
My head is stamped " 245 / 6.0 / 85 " , passenger side as well.....
Only 100 6.0 engines produced? Wonder how many (w orig. drivetrain) are still on the road. I imagine the majority of these engines went into SEC and E-Class cars.....

I'm the new owner of the car in question. It pulled.... around 250 at the wheels on the dyno. The sheet is laying in trunk, but the car is at my other shop. The DOHC motors make roughly 75hp more than the SOHC. I am in the process of converting it back to original spec. From what I've heard, the twin cam heads need adjusting every 7-10k miles (similar to a valve job) and only a handful of people have the proper tools for it.
