I can't see your pics but your profile says 500SEL, so based on that I think it would help to offer some more details here, such as:
1. What's your budget?
2. Preference between used Originals (e.g., AMG, Lorinser, etc) and new Replicas (many brands)?
3. Have you checked the picture gallery here to see how certain wheels look on W126s?
If you do a search and/or read the many threads on wheels/tires, you'll see the consensus is to go 17" max for W126 sedans.
Many knowledgeable people will say the SELs weren't designed to take 18" and higher - the best evidence being AMG themselves only went up to 17" for our SELs.

Look for posts by Raymond, as he has spent a lot of time researching the effects of changing out to lower profile wheels/tires, lowering and changing spring pads.

I have a set of old-school rare AMG 3-piece wheels, 17x8.5. They're in good to very good condition, not perfect but do not require refinishing.
$950, but no tires. I know that's beyond your budget, but thought I'd mention anyway. These wheels look sweet on a W126, and with ET18 offset, give it just the right stance.

Sometimes a picture of a rim looks great until you see it on a SE/SEL and then realize something is a little off (e.g., spokes too thin).
$800 incl. tires will be a little challenging for 17s - will be easier to get 16s at that budget.
Start at Tirerack and DiscountTireDirect.com for internet retailers - both allow you to choose your vehicle and show you which wheels will fit

I saved him as a favorite seller incase he ever got any more in stock, but ended up going with another wheel, this was his site:

one of the W124 guys picked up a set in 18" for about $200. you can't go wrong with the monoblocks though!

Depending on the width, you might be able to go higher. E.g. with 8J you can go up to ET 30 or, in a few cases, 35. But it starts to get tricky - some will work and some won't.

Stay away from 18's, they will wear out your wheel bearings as the car was not meant for those size wheels. Unless you plan on replacing them yourself count on at least 700-1000 for the repair. The car looks good with 17's as some have mentioned. I recently purchased an 85 300SD and am trying to find the second gen 15" wheels to replace my 14's. Keep it stock, its a gorgeous car, don't ruin it with something fancy. Also, be careful with aftermarket wheels, as they usually do not have the right offset, and will wear out your bearings as well. (that includes replicas), dont ask me how i know.
