Much interior noise from leather seats rubbing - is it common?
This sounds strange but my 85 500SEC's seats seem to make lots of racket when driving down the road. Any bumps seem to get the various leather pieces in the seats rubbing agains each other. I wonder if there is something that will soften the leather and make the interior less noisey while driving. Some of the noise may also come from the driver's side door panel which may have had some of the plastic connectors broken when it was reinstalled (seems a little loose).

That's what made Europeans smarter than us for years. They didn't have leather or MB tex. They had velour. It was cool in the summer, warm in winter, and quieter than a mouse pissin on cotton.

I'm pretty sure most of the noise comes from the door panels rubbing against the sills. It only needs a little moisture - apply for instance Armor All Plastic and Vinyl Protectant along the sills. For the seats you have to clean them first with leather soap, and first then you can apply some leather grease on them to keep the surface soft - and quiet. Takes a day or two before the noise stops completely - the fat needs to distribute itself a bit first I suppose.

Your noise cold also be coming from the weatherstripping. Back in the day when MBs were really serviced, the servive procedure called for wiping down of the rubber and mating surfaces. Then they were sprayed with silicone spray. The factory called for a product called OREL, but as far as I know, nobody has ever seen the stuff on this side of the pond. Also the door hinges and latches were lubed. All MB service is ala-cart now.Tires were also balanced during the service. That is a separate item and charge now. As an example nowhere on the A service or B service does it say to lube the rubber weatherstriping on the vero roof on an SLK. I had one about a year ago that rattled so much on the road, you had to turn the radio up. During the service I ran the roof to a half way position and cleaned and lubed the surfaces. It was increadibly quiet after that.

This month: 2000 K1200LT and 97 540i (The 380SE is still not running)
I chased this for years applying lexol etc to every possible edge of leather or MB tex where it met plastic or anything else.
ITS NOT THE SEATS........THE PRIOR POST IS CORRECT----ITS THE PLASTIC CLADDING ON THE LOWER OUTSIDE OF THE DOORS!
A friend of mine turned me on to this years ago......open your doors and spray or wipe silicone on every interior/inside edge of the cladding on the lower part of the door where it touches other body panels....problem solved.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I already wiped the silicone on the rubber surfacers but I will retry the lower door sills. I tried Lexol on the squeeky seats but it did not help. Perhaps saddle soap will work where the leather touches.

Open the door,......look at the inside edges of the Plastic cladding......that is what is making the noise,......The sill and rubber might contribute.....but it is the cladding where it touches the car that makes that noise.
