injector choices - whats best to go with?
Hello All!! I am the proud new owner of a 1982 300SD (W126) with 186k mi on the odometer. I plan on keeping the car as long as possible.
She needs "re-priming" every morning and wont start with out a spray of starter fluid. A mechanic friend of mine tells me I've got a "leaky" injector that is bleeding fuel into the cylinder and that I need to replace my injectors.
After reading quite a bit and talking to a couple of diesel techs I am convinced it would be best to go with new injectors rather that re-manufactured units. If anyone can dispute this please do, I welcome your input.
My main questions are; which injectors are the best to go with? I've read that the Bosch are made in India and that many owners have had problems with them; the Monark's seem to be a favorite but I've also seen good things said about the Bosio from Italy.
Can anyone tell me (hopefully from experience) which injectors are "the ones" to go with?
Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Usually injectors are rebuilt not new. Every shop I know installs rebuilt ones on an exchange basis. The only thing that wears out on an injector is the nozzle not the body so there is no need to buy a new body. Most shops do not want to do the rebuild themselves, they want to take out the whole injector and install a "new" one because rebuilding takes time. I believe the bosch are factory spec. I also understand that the Monarks have a modified spray pattern more in line with current technology. I do not know about the bosio other than they are a high quality piece. Lastly a leaky injector would be my last thought on a hard starting cold diesel. If it is in fact "leaky" one would think a diesel purge would correct that.
I used the deluxe diesel purge kit http://dieselgiant.com/fueldeliverya...ionrelated.htm
Paid too much for a gatorade bottle I know.
Also this is the kit for my car http://mercedessource.com/node/6019

no such thing as new injectors?
So any injectors I buy are going to be rebuilds? What about the springs inside them? Do they go bad or is it safe to just replace the tips using one of mercedessource.com's kits? Also would you do a diesel purge before or after?

First off I would do a diesel purge before I even considered replacing injectors. My 300sdl ran way better afterwards. I still have one noisy one but it runs well. Second I would do a diesel purge prior to a rebuild to make sure no dirt gets in my new injectors. Also when you rebuild them the "pop" test will tell you if the spring is bad. I have never heard of a bad spring though. I will not be using bosch when I do replace mine. Either bosio from diesel giant or Monarch from mercedes source. Probably mercedes source because I want the pop tester too. The diesel giant guy swears you don't need to pop them just slap them in and go. Be warned new injectors are noisy for about 500 miles. Almost forgot, I did buy the diesel giant DVD and now I am confident I can do the job myself.
Are you sure your glow plugs are good???

I'm ordering a purge kit and new injectors tonight! What do you think of his primer pump choice the Monark vs the new and improved Bosch design? Glow plug relay seems shot, I think the plugs are ok, but I haven't tested them yet.

I have a 603 so I don't have a primer pump. I remember reading bad stuff about the old one but didn't pay much attention. Here is diesel giants tutorial, http://dieselgiant.com/mercedes_dies...nance_tips.htm

I'd been on those pages before but really do appreciate you taking the time to answer. Figured you were as dude too but knowing some quite mechanically inclined ladies didnt want to jump to any conclusions or assume. I just went and ordered from mercedessource.com the rebuilt / tuned injectors and a purge kit. We will see how it goes!! This weekend I trouble shoot my glows... Thanks again dude!
