Hi, does anyone here know the exact whell offset of a W126? Actually I was trying to know the offset of a 450SEL 6.9 W116, but since they seem to be the same I'm asking you guys!

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
Also interested in finding out as I am trying to upgrade the wheels on my '84 300SDL (which I bought for mom) and I am curious as to what will fit. Bolt spacing will also be much appreciated. Will the stock wheels off of any other model Benzes fit as well???

Thanks...

- Jimmy

Jimmy,

Stock offset on the U.S. 300SD/SDL was 21.5mm. On the Euro it may have been 25.0mm. I'm not sure what you have as you mention an '84 300SDL but there were only U.S. 300SD's until '86.

Most wheels from any chassis after the W126 will NOT work on that car other than many R129 SL wheels. Most stock type sizes will be fine, but if you get an aggressive SL setup it may not.

There are limited wheels still available that will work on that car. Spacers can be used to help with fitment in the rear, but commonly available hubcentric spacers do not fit the W126 front hub.

The bolt pattern is 5x112.

just as a FYI, my father put my 17x7.5, 17x8.5 AMG Monoblocs ET35 from my CLK on his 560SEC with no spacers, just shorter bolts (ones from stock rims stuck out)

Thanks for the info. guys. The car isn't mine, I bought it for mom but the stock wheels are crap. I was thinking of putting my stock wheels off of my 97 E420 as the bolt pattern is the same but wasn't sure about the offset. Now it's clear...Thanks again.

i would say definitely on the rear, as my father has 8.5 et35 on the rear, fronts, you would need an extra 1/4 inch clearance on inside and outside of my fathers car, ill check tomorrow and get back to you.

No,

You don't want to run ET35 on any W126. You can use spacers in the rear, but not in the front and you'll have a problem.

It's probably working because the car is not lowered. They will cause problems if you lower it.

we will find out, my father plans to lower his car soon, i just went and looked at the car, cant find any possible issues until the car is lowered more than a 3 or so inches. only possibilities of rubbing exist on the inside, a problem that can be solved using spacers. there is room on the outside fender. who knows....

i cant find any possibilities for a problem even with lowered suspension. where would the rubbing occur? id like to know so i can check again before my father gets new suspension. maybe i missed something...

You're right that the problem is on the inside. It's right at the edge of being a problem. We usually don't recommend anything more than an ET31 for the front on a W126 - so the difference to 35 is not much.

There are no commonly available hubcentric spacers that will fit the front wheel hub on a W126. You can machine them to make them work however.

Good luck with the lowering.

Hummm... I am a bit confused here, but what about the AMG 5-spoke 18x8.5 ET 25 and 18x9.5 ET 23? Will they fit W126 then

Thanks for all info

Absolutely, that's a great setup for the W126.

One of the wheels is hard to get right now. Don't remember if it's front or back, but it's on back order to Germany from most everyone.

I'm surprised you can even get ET55 wheels on your front wheels without hitting something.

The SEC's need something in the ET20-30 range generally. Anything outside that range and you're inviting problems although certain combinations will work.

I have a 91 560sec and am looking at getting these rims, like your dad has: front wheels F 45.7 x 19.0 cm / 17.0 x 7.5 in
rear wheels R 45.7 x 21.6 cm / 17.0 x 8.5 in
front tire size 225/40 R 17
rear tire size 255/35 R 17

The et is 35. They are from an clk55 2002. Could you post a pic of what your dads looked like not lowered. The one in the thread doesnt work. Also did you lower it? How did they work out. Please let me know the details. Thank you so much!

The larget offset you can run on a 126 would be ET30 or below. My stock 15 whold wheels where ET21 and my Aero I's are ET11. You can run spacers for offset >ET30 but some people are against spacers.

I've got W140 wheels on my '84 SEC and they don't rub even with the car lowered in the front. Keep front tires under 215/55/16 size.
