1982 300sd difficult start
I put a new starter in exactly 1yr ago. Everything has been working perfect. This car is my daily driver. Battery is 3-4 yrs old. Says fully charged. Turn key, hear click, but no turnover. If I get a jump, the car turns over. Only after many turns of the key. When it stops raining, i am going to look at the wire connects to the solonoid ontop of the starter. If the wires are tight, then I will not have a clue as to why it does not turn over. I have checked the battery connections, they are tight. And clean. Bruce

At 3-4 years old the battery needs to be removed and tested before further diagnosis.
When that is done, if the battery and solenoid cables are tight.
Try jumping the small wire attached to the solenoid with a Phillips screw, over to the battery cable.
If the engine cranks normal, the issue is 90% odds your Neutral Safety Switch has failed, or 10% odds the ignition switch is bad.

And this may sound dumb, but...make sure the car IS in park or neutral. Went through quite a time trying to figure out why my car wouldn't start until I looked at the shift lever...car was still in drive. Doh!
