Hi i just acquired this vehicle from the original owner....this is my 1987 420sel (owner rebadged it 560sel for unknown reasons) with just under 41,000 original miles...vehicle was purchased from the original owner who took great care of the vehicle...looks like it was just driven off the showroom floor!

Rebadged 420
Congrats on your choice of what appears to be a very nice example of the W126 chassis.
I would like to offer a suggestion based on my view of your photos and my familiarity with the S classes of your car's generation. I think the car that you have purchased is in fact a 420 SEL and not a 560SEL regardless of the trunk's badging. The 560 iteration of the W126 had a few additional comfort features that were not typically found on the less expensive 420 version of the W126. Specifically, the rear seat on the 560 was moveable, that is it was possible for the rear seat occupants to adjust the seat electronically by use of buttons located on the door, adjacent to the power window control button. I did not see such a button in the photos you attached to your post. All 560s were fitted with foot bolsters/rests that were placed on the floor as a subtle reminder that the rear seat occupants were riding in a car that was meant to represent the finest fit and materials and comfort MB had to offer.

Also, it is my recollection that all 560s came with heated front seats. I did not see those control buttons in the photos.

To corroborate my suggestions, the simplest thing to do is to check the VIN on the inside edge of the trunk lid and see if it matches the VIN badge ( driver side, at bottom of windshield) and other body panels. There is a chance that your car's trunk lid was replaced with one for a 560. Of course, there is also a chance that I know nothing, and my suggestions here are completely wrong.

Good luck. Hope you have many miles and years of enjoyable motoring.

I own a 420SEL and everything you mentionned is in the car.
I have front heated seats and reat adjustable seats..

Here you can see the two switches for the front heated seats and the rear on my 420SEL.

Front heated seats switches.

Rear seats switch on the door.

I did not mean to suggest that those features could not be found on a 420SEL. I am suggesting that these features would have been available as additional cost options for the 420 model, and standard, no additional cost features for the original 560 SEL purchaser. Most 420 SELs were sold and delivered without heated seats and without the adjustable rear seats. Most original 420 SEL buyers, if they wanted those features, would have purchased the larger engine, the 560.
