Considering a W140. Coupe or sedan?

Greetings...Im selling my 2002 clk430 to recoupe some costs to fund a realestate project. Im 30 years old. I like the looks of the 140 versus the new style S. Is this a car a guy at 30 will like? Does it satisfy your driving appetite year after year. The coupe looks a little sportier i will admit. With the prospect of taking clients out or the occasional "couples night", does this render the coupe or sedan for you. The other car im seriously considering is the 500E, which is simply one of the best cars ever made imo. I want a car i wont feel bad about driving in winter. The 500e is too fragile to me to drive in winter. Should i buy the 500E anyways and stick to my pickup trucks in the winter or consider a model more sutable for year round driving? Thanks...Tree Guy.

Tree Guy,

I've had both the 140 Sedans/Coupes and two 500E's. Right now I have a '97 140 Coupe and love it dearly as a weekend car. The back seat is very comfortable for me as a bigger guy once I'm in it, but egress is a pain. It's sporty looking, but for all real purposes it's a short wheel base 140 sedan with two doors (199.40in vs. 201.30in). So as far as driving pleasure it's about the same.

I'm thinking of selling mine for a W140 500 Sedan to gain a fully usable backseat. Not sure where you're located but I'm in Wisconsin and must say the car needs snow tires. Even then it can be a pig on ice.

The 500E isn't really a fragile car, it can stand up to the punishment of any other Benz. Do you want that much horsepower in that size car in winter? Probably not. But when the street is dry it's a hell of a car.

Depends on what you want, you're comparing two pretty different cars unless you want to venture into V12 140's. Even then the 500E is going to handle better.

Highway smoothness, driver & backseat comfort? S Sedan/Coupe
Driver fun? 500E

Matthew

I currently own both a W140 sedan and coupe. They are both amazing cars and despite the coupe only being a 500 series, it gets more attention than my 600 sedan. 2 adults can sit fairly comfortably in the back seat of the coupe, but it is chore to get in/out like in most coupes. I would recommend a sedan for your purposes, but go drive both and see which suits you more. If you used to put clients in your CLK, a W140 coupe is more than enough.

a Few Nice cars.
I run my Familys used car dealership and right now im driving a 01 Honda Accord coupe with everything in it leather,sunroof,powerseats,everything..and I was driving a Nissan Maxmia with everything its a 4dr...and I own a 2dr Riviera that i love and its bigger car then the accord.

Dont like the Accord
Love my Riviera and its closest to the size of a w140 coupe ,dont own a w140 coupe, however my other personal car is a w140(s500) sedan and love it but the riv has a great ride too.so what i am is if the w140 coupe is roomy like the riv then go with the coupe.

I will be selling my 1995 S500 coupe in the next month if you are interested. It is metallic Green with light beige interior. Every option (CD changer, integrated phone, etc.). Has two sets of wheels, the stock 16 inch wheels with all season Continental tires; and 18 inch Mercedes sport wheels with new Michelin Pilots. Just around 75,000 miles. Thinking around $19,000 obo for the car. Goodluck
