just bought my S600 coupe tonight
I'm very happy with my purchase of a '96 S600 coupe. I decided to take my wife out for dinner to show her our new toy. Anyways, at the restaurant, I give the keys very hesitantly to the valet. After dinner, we drive home and park it in the garage. As we exit the vehicle, as my wife was smiling, she took a quick peek over the whole car one last time before we went inside only to yell out that someone had hit the drivers side taillight/ as well as the body metal surrounding the taillight!
Needless to say I am extremely pissed off tonight and can't seem to calm down as I pace around in circles like a Pitbull in front of my laptop having just done a ton of web searching for a '96 s600 coupe taillight replacement. But the thing is I can't find any! I did manage to find a dismnatler in Cali that selling one for $380 but this seems high as the taillights for the sedans are going for $85 on ebay.
So my question is , do parts for the coupes run a premium over ones for the sedans?
Does anyone here know where I can look for one?
The surrounding bodymetal looks like the Valet must have backed out and hit another car pretty hard since he smashed the taillight to bits and pressed the bodymetal thats between the taillight and the bumper inward about 2 inches.
I also need to find a good S600 wrench. Do most of you prefer doing most maint work DIY or do you guys take your cars to the MB dealer?
My car needs new shocks in rear and my antenna does not go down, thats it for any maintenance besides the valet accident.
I'd appreciate if anyone can help me out with any helpful info. I am located in Chicago by the way.

Go back to the restaurant and have a talk with the person in charge. You did nothing except go have dinner with your wife. You are in no way responsible for what happened. The valet is; HE crashed your car. Plus, the restaurant should have insurance for these type of things.

diabolos - Give this a try...I know w140 part are hard to find.
1st) try ebay store - go to related links then search for items next Items by seller - look up gerardm123. they have a fair selection.
2nd) http://www.autohausaz.com/
They have great prices and have had most things I have looked for.
Good luck
Drive on

is a German Tank
there is absolutely no reason as to why you have to dig out of your pocket for something that you were not responsible for...go back to the restaurant and speak to the person in charge before they brush you off...

i had the same experience, however I didn't discover the damage until a day later, and I tried to go back to the restaurant to show them the damages, and they claimed that they couldn't do anything because there is no proof that they did it. He said "for all I know you could of banged it up yourself after dinner and felt that we should pay for it" its all a bunch of bs, if your lucky then the general manager will pay for the damages. Good luck!!!
