500 coupe dies

I am a new member and I need help. My 96 coupe dies as I am driving the car, no advance warning, no warning lits no nothing. So far, I have been able start it go. I have showed it to a few mechanics and replacement of MAF or the CPS ( the sensor calls somthing else in this car). Recently a mechanic told me the 500 coupes have this problem mainly due to wear and tear of the wires around the engine. They have seen the wires covers to break away and rubbing of the wire causing this engin failure to happen. Has anyone experinces this? Any advice? I Thank in advance.

Yes, look at your wires instead of typing on the computer. If they look like this, you have a problem:

and

I thought that the insulation on the wiring was a problem only through the 1995 cars. Maybe that is incorrect. But, you just have to look at the wires in your engine compartment to know.

CPS? Do you mean flywheel position sensor? This could be the problem.

Thanks for the comprehensive info.Mine is not a V12 but I'll start looking for defects. and yes, one mechanic recommended replacing the Flywheel Positioning Sensor.

I checked all wires and they were fine. I took the car back to MB dealer and reminded them the signs I am getting may not be signs of bad MAF unit. Guess what, it was and it cost me over $700.
