AC Blower Motor/Regulator replacement

I have found threads that recommend replacing the AC blower regulator, but none that give any details. From what I have read, I suspect the blower regulator died in my 95 S320. I have also read that the evaporator is a nightmare to replace.

Since I have not taken much apart on my car so far ( did front shocks and replaced head lights ). Is getting to the AC motor/regulator easy, a few hours to do, or even a weekend project? Also does anyone have an opinion on getting a replacement blower motor as long as I am taking stuff apart.

Thanks.
Bill

That link looks like good detail.

I know my S320 does not have a Charcoal or Pollen filter.
But I will compare it to my engine compartment tonight.

Thanks syljua.

I wonder if it the S500 Filter housing will fit my car...
Hmm, maybe a trip to the junkyard is in order.

I am also having to look at replacing mine, is there any way to get one at a decent price, I'm looking at 200 bucks here in NZ, can I 'rebuild' the old one?

I ordered a new replacement motor and the regulator for $338(US) from autohausaz. I will post how rebuilding my AC blower goes.

I have not yet recieved the parts. I will probably do this next weekend.

Bill, another common problem is a rusted top bearing, the one you see at the center of the squirrel cage when you remove the pollen filter. Apparently condensate collects there and sits and rusts the bearing, causing the motor to slow or stop completely. Several people haved reported that simply breaking the bearing loose by manually turning the fan and then lubricating the bearing worked wonders to restore full fan fuction. I don't know if the new motor includes this bearing so make sure it is in good shape and well lubricated.

The blower regulator is also a very common fault. I replaced mine recently, too.

Thanks Brett

Thanks for the tip. I checked while I was trying to figure out the cabin filter issue. Turns out that the S320 can have a filter, I just didn't have one.

I don't see rust on any of the parts, yeah.

Still waiting for the regulator... I'm glad Spring is relatively cool this year.

Bill

Next project is to get the AC in the '36 working again.

The regulator is a real easy fix. I was amazed when I did mine. I had fears of new blower etc, etc. but all it was was the regulator and all was good.
Took a couple hours tops.

You should at least have 2 filters, one filter that looks like
a grand piano over the fan and one small recirclating one
under the passenger dash. The difference of the grand piano
one is the underside, where it is covered in charcoal when
you have the additional charcoal filter (under wiper), and
not when you have not (perhaps the opposite of what
one should think...)
