Rate the S-class for presence?
Which S-class do people believe has more "presence" driving on the road, and when parked? W126, W140, W220, or W221. Thanks.

W126, W140, W220 and W221 have presence in different ways.
W126 looked very "majestic" in appearance. W140 looked very "grand" The
W220 had more of a refined, sweet, smooth look which definetly was a departure from the W140. The W221 totally goes back to the aggressive, "STANCE" look. It most resembles the W140 in its sheer GIRTH, but not in that "fat" way.
Its so hard to get the right words, but those of you that know these cars know exactly what I mean.
When you look in your rear view Mirror, only the W140 and W221 basically SHOUT at you to get the F out the way, while the W126 and W220 politely tell you that you are not as good as them, so won't you be so kind as to move over to let me pass............. he he

This poll results are obviously going to vary depending on the forum its polling. Being in the W140 forum, what results would you expect?
I consider the W140 to be the last great MB but I don't think it has the presence it once did. I categorize S-class's very much like Chucky said.
The real question should be: If you were holding the keys to a W126, W140, W220 and W221, which one would you take?

Over the years, my family owned 3 W140's and are currently on our 3rd W220. Although the W220s are gorgeous automobiles, I believe the W140 held the most prescence. Back during its production run, the car was uncompromised and hands down the ultimate luxury sedan with the best performance of that class of automobile. It was the Mercedes tank, elegant and bulletproof. It is said that the quality has been restored to the W221. I hope that is true.

I voted for w221. its todays mercedes, qualifies for starmark 7 years warranty, has all the high tech gadgets of today, faster than any older S-class. its the current body design, no big deprication like the w220 and w140 so far and will remain that way for another 5 years because of being the current body style. You have to work harder and more to buy one since its much more expensive than any older S-class. So the show off aspect of it is the winner over the rest too if you cared about that.
BUT
w140 is a cult classic and will remain that way forever. You can buy a nice one in low 20s but only true w140 and merc lovers will buy those cars, not anyone who can afford 20 grand. So when you have a w140, people will know, you purposely , lovingly bought that car. not because it was the best choice for the money you paid.
I dont think w126 is considered a cult classic , at least not as much as w140. But again, you have an image with this car. it tells people a lot about you when they see you driving it.
well, W220 is in my opinion the best choice for the money. they depriciated big time. for 40-50grand, there is no car that can give you that much luxuary, performance, classy look etc... I think anyone who is looking for a good car may consider these cars for the best value.
I would love a MY1999(only 15 in USA) S600 for my garage for its collection aspect and MY2007 S600 for my daily driver for its comfy ride and make-life- easier aspects(i.e distronic plus, nightvision, navigation system, voice command etc..).

I'd say it's the W140. I've noticed how people still look at it in awe when they see one, and it's hard not to. W220 still manages to go unnoticed sometimes, austere and sublime elegance. if the S-Class is the King of cars then the W220 is queen Victoria, and W140 is Henry VIII.
I remember many years ago when the W140 was in its 2nd or 3rd year of production, we were driving on the highway and we were overtaken by a W140. My mother, who still can't recognize her own car at a parking lot (she only knows it's graphite gray and the license plate numbers) jumped on her seat and said THAT is the car I want. I asked her what car was that, just to know how much impact it has caused on her, and she immediatley answered, it's an MB, of course :P

Hehe. The W220 should should be known as King Edward VIII...... was popular at first, but abdicated the throne when he chose to go with Less quality instead of stay true to the marque....(Edward chose a twice divorced American instead of the British Nation).........(the W220 chose to cut costs and put out a product with more plastic and overlooked all quality that was deemed to pricey)
Going a little off topic...which MB model would you say was the people's princess? LOL. I'd say 190 W201 :P

I also like how it's so quiet people don't notice as you move through the downtown district I have had so many people cross the road in front of me only to see this huge silver monster heading for them, even though I'm going slow and am a while away they all run unlike any other car I have ever owned it's quite funny.

My "Big Blue Benz" (W140) will still bump a W220, any BMW, Jag, or anything short of a Bently or Maybach out from in front of a restraunt when vallet parked, so I'll vote for it. I guess the best feeling came, however, when my wife's ex pulled up behind me in his brand new long wheelbase Jag, stood between the two behemoths... and let out a little whimper.
Score one for "teutonic arrogance" he he he...
