New Owner 1995 S600 Not Running HELP!!!
I recently bought a 1995 S600 it has 142,000 miles the paint in spanking new and interior is awesome everything works heated seats mirrors shade the only problem is its not running I bought the car for $1,400 the guy I bought it from said he was driving it one day and began overheating he said the car turned off but he still continued to drive it when he got about 2 blocks away from home he said he heard a pop and that was it. He told me it’s probably the head gasket could this be true? I mean for 1400 I had to get it but know I’m stuck in a money pit. When I got it I tried turning it on and it did for 3 seconds then it shut off. I just bought a new battery for it the one it had was bad. So now the car won’t start the starter seems good because it cranks but I feel that no gas is going thru I don’t know what could it be? One morning I noticed that oil was dripping from the oil pan. I also want to buy the diagnostic tester from eBay maybe that will help me out a bit its only $50 I can afford that. So my question basically is what can it be I’m more than 86% sure it might be the heads but I heard this car has a lot of sensors. All fuses are ok checked oil dipstick and transmission all good. I mean am I going to have to buy a used engine now or just rebuild the heads? Help!!! People I’m stuck my friend said he knows mechanics and they told him that car is a nightmare and that he could fix it for $4500 wow I’m I going to spend that much fixing it?

I'll be the first to admit....just because I own a few Benz's does not mean I can afford them!
And a S600 is expensive to keep running!
Take it to a Benz mechanic and find out what the problem is first and then decide what to do.
Do not let any 'ol mechanic work on it....it has to be someone who works on these types of cars! If someone works on it and has no S600 experience...they WILL screw it up more.
You got it cheap...spending 5K more to fix it is worth it...if not, part it out.
And a S600 is expensive to keep running!

Thanks folks for your input I think I have some bad news I looked in the coolant reserve and its empty and at the base I see brownish kind of looks like mud but I think the guy that owned it might of put that gasket sealant it doesnt look like oil to me if there is no coolant would it still turn on? If I crank it up for about 10-20 sec it starts but only for about 2 sec then it shuts off I don’t want to ruin the starter but I just had to try it. So any ideas? I really don’t want to part it out I want to fix it up.

Benz Running Now
OK people got the Benz running it was spark plugs all burned out but i noticed it overheats in about 10-15 Min has to be water pump and thermostat i know what it sounds like when pump is bad now the question is how much am i going to spend for labo?r i am going to buy the parts myself I'm willing to do it myself i already got instructions with pics on how to tackle this job Ive done it before on other cars but never on this car open to any suggestions

Even though all my experiance is on an S320 - I would say don't let the nameplate scare you. If you have done a waterpump before I would say you can do this one. Did you buy the OB tester on ebay? if not do, it will save you countless hours of guessing and give the people here something to go on if you ask for help. It will tell you if some of the electronics are going bad and they are generally an easy fix.

Thanks folks for your input I think I have some bad news I looked in the coolant reserve and its empty and at the base I see brownish kind of looks like mud but I think the guy that owned it might of put that gasket sealant it doesnt look like oil to me if there is no coolant would it still turn on? If I crank it up for about 10-20 sec it starts but only for about 2 sec then it shuts off I don’t want to ruin the starter but I just had to try it. So any ideas? I really don’t want to part it out I want to fix it up.

ur problem could be less than u think. on the other hand my dad got a loaded 500 for 1000. 100 000 miles but its been a problem ever since so its being wholesaled. i love them, hate to hear them be parted out
