92 400se gas odor
My 92 400SE has a strong gas odor coming from the trunk and inside the passenger compartment. I over-filled it a week ago, which I thought was the problem. But, today I put more gas in it, not overfull, and the problem/odor returned. What should I check? Fumes are very strong. There is no sign of gas leakage on the ground under the engine compartment or under the right rear wheel.

well start with one question.
when you take off your gas cap do you hear a vacuum or pressure release?
there is a small plastic valve on the bottom of the tank called a Regeneration valve that releases pressure to vent fumes thru a charcoal filter which is locate under the front left wheel well.
I had problems with this regeneration valve which did not release and caused tank to collapse but I noticed fumes before the collapse. But the first thing I would check is eithe rvacuum or pressure at gas cap removal.

Thank you very much for your response. I do have very good vacuum at the gas cap. Just inspected the gas tank. It appears that the gasket on the fuel level sending unit leaks when the tank is above 3/4 full as evidenced by fuel streak on outside of tank. I will replace gasket and then inspect charcoal filter up front.
