SRS Light

Purchased a 1998 S500. The SRS light goes out right after the car starts, but comes on and stays on. Any ideas why or how it can be reset? Also someone tried to push the driver's outside mirror back without using the power assist and now it is loose. Is there a way that it can be pushed back into place?
Steve

Generally the mirror will reset itself after you attempt to open and close it from the interior. Sorry, can't help with the SRS. It's possible the codes need to be reset with a machine if someone removed an airbag module without disconnecting the battery first (at least that's what happens with the newer gen MBs).

For my 99 S500, the child seat sensor on the passenger seat went defective, the SRS light will stay on permanently.

It is a pain to fix as the seat cover will have to be removed and the dealer charge for removable and reinstall of the passenger seat to replace the sensor. I didn't even have a child seat ever put in the vehicle

There is no way to by-pass the child seat sensor to complete the initial SRS test during startup. When the SRS light is on, I was told by the dealer that all SRS functions will be disable. That means no deployment of airbags..which becomes annoying as I trust the safety feature of MB and won't have it disable as a choice.

Steve, Everytime I had a SRS light come on it has been the SRS module under the console, insane money new at the dealer and most fail within a period of time. You can change it with out going to the dealer.

When you say under console, do you mean under the phone?

No Steve, The module is behind the ashtry and the wood trim around the shifter and the climate control unit has to be removed before you even see it.

Did the code reader indicates a defective SRS module? How expensive is this part?

Dealer reads the code and found out its the child proof sensor which is defective in my case.

pop the mirror back in place if it doesn't reset itself. the proper position should be the average length from the door. u will feel it and hear a pop, u might need a little force once its in that position or possibly the position it was in last when it popped out. i thought u said asr nor srs

Eddie A.

Bought a Used Airbag Sensor. On the Sensor it says it must be coded before being opertional? Do I need to disconnect the battery before I disconnect old one and install new, used one?

Sincerely,
