Modification Epiphany (light bulb)
W140 6cyl up to 1995 had the 4 speed auto (essentially 3 gears plus 1 overdrive). i do not know the ratios but i would REALLY REALLY like to know. I do know however it has 3.58 or 3.59 differential gearing (i forget which but close enough either way).
The 5 speed "speed adaptive" W140 transmission is the same for all the motors on the W140 chassis (v6-v12) and the ratios are all the same. essentially its 4 gear + 1 overdrive. Not only that but its much lighter than the old 4 speed and uses 40% less parts ( which means more reliable).
if the gear ratios work out properly that means the 300SE i have could have 5 speed PLUS the 3.59 differential there by making me have 1 extra (much more aggressive) first gear there by helping out performance and acceleration alot.
what do yall think? good idea or what?
1st Gear: 3.93
2nd Gear: 2.41
3rd Gear: 1.49
4th Gear: 1
