Forced to Sell my 500! Dam*it!

Sadly, I'm forced to sell the Mercedes to get the 928 back on the road (wrecked it). I'd LOVE to keep this fantastic car, but I don't want to wait that long to get all the cash I'd need to fix the 928, so I have to sell the Benz and get something a little cheaper, maybe an Audi. Bad money situation, so it is what it is...
So, I'm putting on the 19" Lorinser LM5ish wheels within the week, and the S600 grill tomorrow. It has 160k on it, runs awesome, doing the timing chain immediately, already has 5% tint on it, and has every option available. Also has clear corners as well to clean it up a little. I'm getting a full interior and exterior detail, so it'll be all pretty again. Over 10k in receipts in the last 2 years including a new tranny. All the work done at Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz in Seattle. Also has all new sunroof tracks and parts related to that.
What doesn't work: The pump that operates the soft close and the trunk needs to be adjusted to turn up the pressure to work again. The ASR likes to freak out and come on after driving on the freeway for about 45 minutes, but restarted the engine solves that. It just removes function from the first 2" of the pedal. The ASR can very easily be disabled to eliminate this problem, or you can do other methods and replace whatever is causing trouble. Thats it! Everything else seems cool on the car and its been such a joy to own, but I'm giving my Benz buddies first shot at it. Don't slap my face with low ball offers though, be real. I'm considering you guys friends so don't try and dick around, won't work . My email is gq-beej@comcast.net and my cell is 425-280-8598 if you want more info and/or want to check it out.

Yeah, get the 750iL! I hate bimers but I have to say the E38 7 series is very nice! (as well as the old 5 series and the X5):o You just have to get the 18 inch Parallels as well.

Ya know, I had thought about getting another old 6 series and modding it out like my old one, but I really didn't like the fixed steering wheel, and the inefficiency from that engine. The e36s are nice, but they kinda bore me. Everything else I want aside from that I don't want to fork out the cash for, and I'm selling the benz to have more cash in the pocket, so getting an e38 wouldn't be the best idea . And yeah, I'm very familiar with one, we have a 95 740 that I love, but I just don't want to spend the extra to get one at this point in time. Thanks for the suggestions though!

1997 S600 - Bentley Turbo R (black/black)
I didnt know the 740 were bullet proof !

I owned a 99 740il, before i got my 97 s500..

i love the way the 7 drives...so sporty, love the interior as well...

But i have to admitt, the S500 is more intimidaiting and has more of a presence.

Last week i went out, and i parked infront of a night club,, there was a 97-2000 750il, wasnt exact on the year. Anyhow, i parked behind him, and honestly my s500 looked much more classier and more powerful.

I admitt though, the 7 is my second favorite luxury sedan..

Do you have the standars 8 hole rims on the 500 ghost? I wonder if the SL 2 piece rims will fit on a W140?

How would that be possible? Dual owns 92 500 with 160000miles and nonworking soft closer doors and an ASR that freaks out. Although he'll be lucky to get $7000 for it his 92 500sel still looks better than your much newer 740.
Secondly what is the milage on your "Bimmer"? I'm more than sure that it will never see 160k, will simply fall apart way before, 160k numbers are reserved for Mercedes only.

Hey Belmondo,
I just checked the classifieds, and I saw a close year 500 with higher miles with nothing special on it for about the same price, and I've seen that before, and the ASR could be as simple as a sensor. The soft close is just vaccuum. The pump works, just doesn't have enough pressure, so having those 2 problems in mind, it very well could be a vaccuum leak. Maybe I could get 7k in Mexico if it was stolen, but not here. And I have to completely disagree with your nose-in-the-air views on any car but Mercedes hitting high miles. Our 95 740, which is known for nit-picky problems, just turned 200k and runs like it was new. Even some Chevys can still hold together above 160k. Do you think the 911 is the 'only real porsche' too? Jeez man, snob...

That means even volvo is a better car than the gaymobile you drive.

Good luck Dual, go sell you Benz that you claim to love so much and put the money into wrecked car. That makes a lot of sence.

There is no car on this planet that after 200k "runs like it was new." This type of statement comes ONLY from the dude who drives it, since he forgot or never new how the new one drives if bought used. I think the dufus with his 740 on this board may believe you. It could seem to him run like new but only in comparisson to his Volvo.

Belmondo's 740 Slander

Hey guess what, I know what a new car drives like, I've owned one, imagine that! You don't want to believe that another car can hold up to the test of time and daily use like a Mercedes can because you're a Mercedes snob, that simple. Go out to any BMW dealer and drive any 4.0l Bimmer and you'll see how easy it revs and runs with no signs of wear on that engine. My 500 doesn't run as well as the 740, nor has it been such a PIA to get someone to work on it. Mercedes cars are no fun to fix when stuff breaks, neither are BMWs, but you don't have to call around to 8 different shops to get someone to do a timing chain. Notice the new 600 series Mercedes. You have to pull the damn engine out to do a particular service on them, how conveniant is that? Don't bash other cars if you haven't at least driven them. I have more posts coming for you, you may want to crawl back in your hole now...

Did it ever occur to your arrogant mind that I may love one car more than the other? How about puting my passion for one car above another and doing what it takes to see my plans for it fulfilled. Maybe you can explain to me why fixing the damage on a car you love is stupid. Can anyone else see where I'm wrong on that? I do love the Mercedes, its no empty claim, but the Mercedes is my daily driver, not my pride and joy, baby, favorite, whatever you want to call it. Now I know for sure you have zero knowledge on the 928 and have never driven one to boot. Do you even know where the engine is or what kind of engine it has? Don't bother answering, your response is not worth reading by anyone but you while you type it. Post to this board if you have something to offer another owner with, like HELP, or a positive comment like the majority of us do. Otherwise, get lost.

SOLD!!

Ok, all fighting and whatnot aside and done (unless Belmondo decides to spout off again), I sold the 500 tonight, before I even listed it. Heres the story:
I was at a used car dealership tonight talking to the salesman inside when 2 black guys and girl about my age ask from outside if the Mercedes is for sale. The salesman says no, so I quickly walk outside and say, it will be in three days. He asks how much i want for it, blah blah blah, and we arrange on 13k in cold hard cash without the rims. He pulls out 9,000 in 20 dollar bills to show me that he has the money. He was just down the street going to buy a Lexus, but it had sold and he was driving by and saw my car. Man, talk about a lucky night! Sooo, after I get the Benz back from the mechanic doing the timing chain and a couple little things, its done! I tried for a deposit, but he wanted to leave with the car, no thanks. Theres that possibility that he could flake in the next two days, but I'm praying he doesn't. I'd appreciate yours too . I'll let you all know how it turns out. Man, sold the car before I even had it listed!
