1995 S500 Check Engine Light ON

Bought this W140 last year 2016 June. Was running fine. Past couple months noticed the vehicle shakes and vibrates at stops and no power to the engine when applies gas pedal. After couple seconds power comes back and happens again when brakes are applied again. Runs fine after a cold start for couple miles then the roughness returns. Just last week Check Engine light came on. Would like to get an idea of what is going on with the car . I don't want to keep changing parts just to realize it hasn't fix the problem. I have noticed that lot of S500 1995 has idling and stalling issues.

Any tips is appreciated. Thank you.

Track down Jim Forgione's website from the other Benz forum. He gives instructions on building a simple led checker. It is the "go to" site for the 500 guys.

It's a nice car. Quiet ,heavy ,luxurious. U just have to get the right one who hasn't been misused and have proper maintenance done on the car. Otherwise u gonna spend a fortune fixing the car than enjoying the car. Beside the above mentioned issue I haven't experienced anything else.

I have a 98 S500 with the same problem. After trying a few things including changing sparks plugs, MAF sensor and coils, I talked with a Mercedes mechanic. He suggested spraying brake cleaner around the intake. The intake was fine along the outer edges but the intake plenum gaskets is what was leaking. Try that but remove the MAF so you can spray the gaskets. I ordered the parts I needed and once they come in, I'll fix the problem and see if that takes care of the problem.

Thank you. Please let me know if that would solve the problem cause I don't want to keep changing parts and not solve the actual problem.

You got it georgetony. I should get the last parts I ordered by Tuesday and should have my car back together by Friday at the latest. (I do a little after work everyday.) Try the spray trick and see if that shows the problem.

Hey georgetony. I got the car back together and still have a problem. I checked the vacuum lines and intake and there was no problem. I ended up changing out the spark plugs for the Bosch Copper Super + since they were the ones that I took out and they had a better spark than the new plugs I put in. With that and cleaning all the connectors to the coils and computers, I could get the rpms up over 3000. Once I held it there, I would get a check engine lite for multiple misfires on cylinders 1,2,3&4. Swapped two coils, 2 & 6 and still read a misfire as before which showed that the coils are good. Turned the car on but didn't start and heard the throttle body humming and then the plate opened a little. Don't think that is supposed to happen, either one. I found another throttle body in a junkyard and should have it Tuesday. I ordered a gasket and should have that by Wednesday. I have the car back together by Wednesday evening and I'll let you know how I made out.
