we're talking about cars here, i know if it would be something that i couldnt do i would let a profetional do it, althou i have seen a profetional MB mechanic, they are good - IN WRITING A NICE BILL, and i did pay them $350 to diagnos it and they told me it was a wiring harness wich has been changed and car still won't run,,, i took it 2 days ago to a smaller garage, they said they work on mercedes engines, and its been 2 days and he has no idea what it is (he's a profetionall with years of experience), so now who sould i give the car too next MB dealer that will write "vehicle needs new engine BEFORE FURTHER DIAGNOSIS" no thanks, i know the car is in pretty good shape there's just a little thing to get it goin, and i'll find it,,, still waiting on new sugestions, Jake

I saw a thread today from England. the problem was the same as yours, he described it as the fuel injectors shutting off after a minute. No idea why however.

what country are you in - was that US dollars?

i would look about and try to find a mechanic (indi) who is used to such cars. The 600 is the most complex car that merc ever built!

The English club doesn't have the forums organised according to models like we do, I guess there are not enough cars of each type for seperate forums. You will have to look a bit to find the one that I mentioned. They also talk quite a bit more so the threads are longer. however it is interesting to brows.

ok now they called me from the garage my car was in, they could'nt find anything, they said the fuel pressure is good but the spark plugs are flooded, i asked them if they check for watter in tank they said they didn't, im taking the car to my house, i called few places where they specialize in MB but they said they'll pass on the 600sel, i quess im gonna have to figure something out, and if not then im getting rid of it,,,, i read yesterday that someone had exact same problem with his 500 and he was told that the watter in tank might be the answer, so i'l try that, il put some dry gas and see if it works,,,,, if thers anyone interested in the vehicle, hit me with best offer but be serious about it, vehicle has only 71.000 miles and its in mint condition

you have to put methyl hydrate in the tank to allow the water to go into solution, it absorbs the water. You can get it at most parts places.
You have been giving it the Old college try.

Yaloha:
the person who probably knows what is wrong with the car is the person who sold the car to the auction company.
one way of figuring this out is to do a prior owner search on "carfax", and find out who the prior owner is and phone him and ask him why he sold it. You may also find out that you have one of the hundereds of cars that are submerged in floods every year. Those cars you see on the news reports of floods get sold to unsuspecting people all the time.

gas or diesel

I am just recalling an experience I had many years ago. The fuel delivery truck filled a gas station tank with diesel instead of velvet 98 gas in error. The station filled my car and quite a few others before the mistake was caught, the cars were all able to drive away because of the gas left in the lines, but stopped as soon as they got to the diesel. Now with a Mercedes some dope may have partialy fillled the tank with diesel, thinking it was a diesel car.
If it is a partial mix it may not be too noticeable, but enough to stall the car.

ok the car is fixed, one of the air flow meters i boght was bad, fuel pressure regulator wasn;t from the 600, the catilityc converters were pluged, and spurg plugs were changed, the car runs grate, but now i think the car doesnt have the first gear, it takes of on the second, i dont know why, but at least it runs good,,
the catilityc converters i bought are aftermarket ones, does anyone know if they are going to last??

well done! get all the codes cleared rom the ecu memory now, then drive for a week, then check agian. these cars can sound like they are running great even when they are not...

the second gear start is 'normal' unless the kickdown switch is pressed (i.e gas pedal buried in the carpet)

or the e/s switch is broken

I would want to know why the catalytic converters failed with only 71K miles? plus all the other problems you have had would make me very skeptical for future reliability. Even though they are great cars, they can be abused to the point of no return.
