Car emitting black smoke annd excessive fuel consumption
My 1992 500SEA is consuming so much fuel, idles fast stutters and emits black smoke after 15 -20 min and refuses to go faster than 30km. On even a slight uphill it nearly comes to a standstill while billowing smoke. Fuel consumption is about 70litres on 160km.
It was checked by a mechanic who diagnosed block fuel injectors. Within 2 weeks the problem occurred again.
I live in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Can someone please tell me what to do.

Very strange story, however if you are the real owner you would find the VIN on the registration for the car that should be in your possession prior to the theft---if not this is a great bed time story for how to waste time!

Unfortunately I became the owner of the car when my husband passed away. He bought the car at an Insurance Company auction in 1993.I have all the registration papers. The VIN No on the registration paper is JC22806 and the Engine number is JE23315

Although I can appreciate your situation, I think it is a moot one as I doubt you are a mechanic and understand the older MB's systems. The diagnosis process is so much different with todays MB's-----My suggestion is take the car to a pace who understands the cars systems.
PS: The VIN is a 17 alpha numeric number
Good luck and sorry for your loss!

Thank you, I'm not a mechanic. We took it to, altogether 3 mechanics over the years, the first one sold his business, the 2nd one passed away and now the 3rd one is retiring. I took the car to the new owners and they could not fix the problem. So I have to find another mechanic who knows these cars, but they are few and far between.
