96 S420 AC IS BLOWING HOT AIR,WHY???
Hello I have a 96 S420 with over 200,000 miles and when I turn the AC on it's blowing hot air,now one independent Mercedes Benz shop tested it and told me it was my evaporator core and the job would be a staggering $3000,another thing what test is exactly done to tell that the evaporator core is really bad???Now I was also reading something about evaporator core sensors that can go bad,I'm wondering maybe it's as simple as replacing a bad sensor, what do you guys think??? Thanks in advance...

Out Of Control!!
We and you haven't seen the test results, so I am going to era on the conservative side and say your trunk is full of beer cans and the noise has affected your sanity----your car has AC self tests why not search the forum and do the fault test---then you can tell us?

Check to see if the AC damper (A31) is stuck. You can check by having someone turning your car ac on and off. You should hear clicking as is Turing from off to on. The clicking is the inside engaging. Next check to see if ( in this pic where the top arrow is pointing) is working or not. I had the same issues as you. I pulled the whole part out that the arrows are pointing too at a junk yard for $10. Took it home. Hooked it up to my Benz, and now my ac works.
