S 500 Coupe vs. BMW 840Ci

My next purchase will be either of these two vehicles, what are the pros and cons on each?

I know parts/maitenance on a BMW should be good for the checkbook, and i know that the s500 coupe is a much better looking car . . . lots of plastic in that BMW interior. . . .

I agree with the above post. However, the Benz has more room and more comfortable than the Bimmer. It also feels more like a tank than the Bimmer. It's just my thought tho. I tested both and ended up with the Benz.

I'd hate to throw a wrench in, but, I'm now thinking of getting the jag coupe since I've already got a benz.

How does this coupe compare to these two? I know that neither of them posses anywhere near the sophistication of the two, but, it's a sharp looking car.

The new Jag coupe is NICE and almost sexy to look at. But Jag is owned by Ford so I would so some homework on this car. BTW, what year are you thinking of the jag?

1997 to 2000, they seem to be pretty cheap. But I'm also considering a 308 or 328, but the maintenance and parts concern me.

It all depends on what your looking for ....

Personally i like how the 840/850 looks, specially the front....and of course the rarity of it.. Its not as reliable as other bmws, and maintenance could get expensive...but the 840 is a sexy car.

Not to say mercedes could not be expensive to maintain at times....but i think its build more solid then the 840......so if your looking for a coupe that you can take on long trips or cruise with comfortably, or the w140 coupe, is a great choice...bigger and bold.and demands more respect...

If your focus is a sporty and the actual drive ..i would recommend the BMW M3...very fun to drive....

I drive a 97 s500 sedan, but thats because i value the big bold look and crusing comfort of the w140 sedan slightly more than sport driving......

good luck

8ers are very cheap in the 2nd hand market main reason for that is VERY VERY VERY expensive parts, even small items that go wrong (which happen frequently on this car I might add) burn large holes in your bank account.

I suggest you buy two one to use and the other to canabilize for parts.

So, I'd be in the same situation as with the Mercedes, nickle and dime repairs at $2k to $5k a piece.

I may be inclined to purchase a late 90's XK8 coupe, their parts aren't as expensive and they are no where near the level of sophistication of the two.

Any comments?

What type of extended warranties are avaialble for older BMWs? MB will give 12 mo, 12k mile warranties on 1996 and newer.

As i mentioned it all comes down to your priority and what you like most.

Warranties are easier to get if the car is newer and lower mileage...And i have heard some warranties will not honor most of the repairs....unlike some star mark warranties on mercedes....

anyhow...i have done much repairs on my s500...it all depends on how the car was taken care of..and i have had it for couple of years now...

There are some cars, i assure you, that you will make some repairs on the more time you keep them..They are prone to break down..and one of them is the bmw 840..and another famous one is the range rover.

You want a luxury car, that is very reliable.....buy a lexus LS400 OR SC400 coupe....they are one of the highest rated luxury and for that matter cars quality wise....I have bought and sold several of them. The are rated high by many owners and car experts...

good luck
