rain sensor

My rain sensor quit working on my 00 S500, I'm not sure when it quit on me but the last time it rained I turned on the wipers and they just wiped normally at 4 second intervals no matter how heavy the rain was. Can someone tell me if this has happen to them before and what went bad. Any info would be appreciated.

If you had a new windscreen installed it is possible that it isnt even there.

Otherwise it is a 3min job to unclip the cover and check a few connections. Generally the activation of the rain sensor is done each time it is replaced. It is an initialization procedure controlled by STAR diagnostic.

I cant say for sure about the W220 but if the unit was unplugged for a long time then it is possible that you need to initialise the rain sensor again from the diagnostic as per the "new windscreen" routine.

I have a 2000 S500 as well...the battery was replaced...and since then, the rain sensor has not been working and I've had some issues with the passenger side, front door window...it tends to stop upon closing, as if somethings obstructing it.

Any info you've received would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Windows, seats, mirrors, steering wheel position (easy entry/exit) and the like can be reset by running them fully in one direction, holding the switch at full travel for approximately 2 seconds (or longer), then running to the opposite limit, holding for about 2 seconds (or longer). It is not unusual to have to do this after the battery is disconnected.

Your rain sensor may need re-initialization, as miroj mentioned above.

The following is provided courtesy of harb and Mr. Pie at Benz Wo rld; can't guarantee that all items work for all cars. I can vouch that it works for easy entry/exit on my S500 as well as for windows.

"Here is a comprehensive list of all items that need (or may need) to be synchronized after loss of power (i.e., battery disconnect):

Synchronizing Head Restraints:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the head restraints are no longer adjusted automatically. To resynchronize the adjustment feature, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move the seat completely forward and the head restraint fully down, and hold respective buttons for approximately two seconds.

Synchronizing power windows:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), the windows cannot be opened or closed by the Express feature. To resynchronize the express feature, press side of power window switch to resistance point until the window is completely closed and hold for additional 2 seconds. Repeat procedure for each window. The automatic full opening and closing procedure of the windows should now be restored.

Synchronizing sliding/pop-up roof:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), or if the sliding/pop-up roof is blocked during closing/opening procedure, the system has to be synchronized. To do so, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move and hold switch in direction (3), until the sliding/pop-up roof is completely raised at rear, and hold for additional 1 second.

Synchronizing ESP:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine running. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. The BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp should go out.

Synchronizing remote control:

The remote control may have to be resynchronized, if the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked. To synchronize insert electronic key in steering lock. The remote control should once again be operational."

Thank you very much for the info...I'll have the dealer reset the rain sensor.

HEY MIROJ AND EVERYONE ELSE WHAT UP?

IM TRYING TO TAKE OUT MY RAIN SENSOR FROM MY 02' S-CLASS AND INSTALL IT IN MY 04' C-CLASS (DONT ASK ME WHY IM RETARTED) AND I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS WITHOUT TAKING OUT THE WIRING FROM THE CARS BECAUSE THEY ALL COME WIRED FOR THE RAIN SENSOR EVEN IF YOU DIDNT PURCHASE THAT OPTION SO MY QUESTIONS ARE

1- HOW DO I "UNCLIP THE COVER IN 3 MINS?" IN THE S-CLASS

2 - UNCLIP THE ONE IN MY C-CLASS AND INSTALL THE RAIN SENSOR IN MY C-CLASS AND OBVIOUSLY MAKE IT WORK - AM I GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER?

PLEASE HELP ME, CAUSE IT LOOKSS LIKE ITS GOING TO RAIN ALL F*C*ING SUMMER IN NEW YORK AND I CANT STAND TEH DAMN WIPERS BEING TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

ttt...

I have a question.. Today it was raining.. and I turned on the Wiper to mode (I). The wiper kept on wiping and wiping the same speed as mode (II).

So after a few minutes I decided to turn off the wipers totally (drove me nuts). I only turned it on when the windshield was covered with rain. So then I decided to try the Rain Sensor mode (I) again.

Same result, it kept wiping the same speed as mode (II) After the wiping I decided to turn the wiper off again.

Now about after 20 mins, almost at home, I wanted to test it again. This time it acutually worked (rain sensing). Wiping when there's enough water on the windshield.

Why isn't it running normally?

Easy to solve this problem. The 02 sensor will not fit in the 04 C-Class. You need to buy the Hella rain sensor from the dealer since the Bosch version is of no use to you.

I dont see which part of this is not working properly. It was raining and the wipers worked and then it wasnt raining and the wipers were not doing anything.

What is wrong with that ?

It was barely raining, it was like drip-drop, drip-drop

like an tap not fully closed...

The wipers were goin full speed.... At that point, it was either fast or off..

I'm pretty sure.. even if there wasn't rain on the windsheild it'd still keep wiping... But why would it work normally 20 mins later?
