I am new to Mercedes (Been a Lexus, Bimmer guy) and have some questions on the new 2003 S500 4Matic, which I am about to order...

How much extra with the 4WD Cost? Will it be an option from the beginning?

Will DVD NAV be available? When? How much extra?

Any pics of the new interior, hints? Same layout with better material and DVD? Is that it?

In some of the 'spy photos' the new S has distinct lines in the taillights..Will that be a production feature?


What is going on with ComandII? Delayed? What new features will it have..
Finally, I can't get a good estimate on when its coming.. My dealer here on Cape Cod tells me this fall, I hear Spring 2003 online, many different dates...When is it coming!

First off, welcome to MBWorld.org.

The price of 4-matic is unknown because Mercedes-Benz has not released any 2003 W220 price information to dealers as of yet. 4-Matic will not be an option from the beginning.

You should also know, you cannot get 4-Matic AND the Sport Package. It's one or the other (I would personally opt for the Sport Package).

DVD Nav will not be available for 2003 according to my dealer, it will make it's debut in North America for the 2004 Model Year. Pricing is unknown, but I assume it will be fairly similar to the current price of Comand.

There is not going to be a new interior nor is there going to be a new exterior. The only aesthetic change being made is a very small change to the headlamps, which is barely noticable, aswell as adds a new option as far as headlamp lighting goes.

The spy photos you saw are most likely of the Maybach, there will be no aesthetic changes to the S-Class other than what I have mentioned above.

Comand II is the name of the DVD Navigation system you speak of. New features are unknown other than the fact that it is a DVD and will run much better than the current Comand system.

The 2003 S-Class will be released between September and November, the S600 will not be released until after the new year, and the release of 4-matic will not be available for 2003. 4-Matic is an option in Europe and other markets, just not for North America in 2003.

It will be a while until I can get DVD and 4matic, so I might wait..

As far as aesthetics, every bit on information I have gotten says "new headlights, tailights, and grill changes-" minor facelift, basically...

I love the look of the S now, soo I wont care if there are any new changes to the exterior, interior.. I just like the DVD nav and 4wd, can't find that in any full size SUVS.

In the US, when would you expect to see a S500 with the 4matic and DVD?

I am confused about the response you received regarding the 4Matic option. In fact, I ordered an S500 with 4Matic, and am taking tourist delivery in Sindelfingen in late November. That is, the car is available as a U.S. specification car for model year 2003. Furthermore, there are more changes than the moderator stated. Mainly, the bumpers have changed, but it is a noticeable update. Obviously, I can not make an "official" statement about the new car, but I have spoken with people who work for MB USA, and also communicated by email with people I know in Stuttgart. Good luck -- I think you will be able to get a 2003. And I wouldn't worry about the sport option -- I have an S55 AMG and a CL55 AMG, and I don't think the appearance changes are that great. I'd much rather have an all wheel drive system, and enjoy the performance difference than look at larger wheels (with a harsher ride as well)!!!!

Mabye it's because you're doing European Pickup that you are able to get 4-Matic, not sure. My dealer told me it won't be out in 2003, they have been wrong in the past though.

i messed around with the build your own on mbusa.com and here is what i found

S500 with no options but 4matic is $85,920.00, $91,020.00 w/ sport package (why would the 4matic not have sport package?)

someone on the forum took pics of his own S500 4matic w/ sport pkg.. i dont remember who the owner was but i thought his car was cool so i saved his pics





here are some more pics of the facelifted S class, it looks awesome in person. i saw it next to an 02 s class and i personally thought it was a big difference... if only i had known they were facelifting it when i got my 02 :o

This is sooo old!

We canceled the S500 Sport and got a CL500 Dec 30th.

We sold the M3 and got a C32 AMG December 31st.


Right now, I am secretly trying to have my dad sell the CL500 and get an E55 AMG.
